They tricked me with that for Zack and Miri, it's not for sale until next Tuesday unfortunately.

Hello again,

I don't believe there are any differences at all. Region-B (France, Germany, UK) and Region-A releases should be identical.

This being said, there is absolutely no doubt in me that the Skynet Edition offers some substantial improvements over the old Lionsgate disc. In motion, this disc reveals a terrific, very stable color-scheme that is absent on the Lionsgate disc. Some of the sharpening is unfortunate but, unlike what the armchair compresisonists at AVS claim, it is not disastrous. In fact, it is absolutely true that because of the poor previous transfers, the Skynet Edition actually reveals more detail during specific scenes. Yes, a new transfer struck from a new master will more than likely eliminate plenty of the issues the current release reveals but, until such a new release becomes a reality, the Skynet edition should not be discarded.

To my eyes, this release is a substantial upgrade over the old Lionsgate disc -- both in terms of video and audio -- and, as I stated in the review, people should find a way to test it, evaluate the improvements and decide whether or not what reviewers have been claiming is true!

If having doubts, basing your decision to buy or avoid the Skynet Edition, by looking at screencaps only, is the wrong thing to do!

Pro-B

Boo...you're right. That's stupid. They shouldn't say "in stock" if you can't pick it up

It shows it in stock. But it's still a Pre-order.

Best Buy's site shows that for titles they have "in stock" (i.e. in the back, or even just allocated to be shipped to the store in the case of pre-orders) - but it does NOT mean you can go and pick it up today. Ordering with in-store pickup before the release date is essentially just pre-ordering. Release dates are always upheld (save for when people accidentally put things on the floor early, but that has no relation to the website's in-store pickup). Come 5/19, you'd be able to go into the store and pick up your item, but not a day earlier.

Go look up any other high profile pre-order, and you'll see the same thing. Take Gran Torino, for example - Best Buy's site shows it as being in stock. But I'm sure there's little doubt in any one's mind about whether they could go buy Gran Torino today or not.

Ok maybe I missed it or I'm getting confused, but is the Japanese transfer the same as any of these new transfers or older transfers?

As far as we can tell, all Blu-ray versions (across all regions) come from the same original transfer that was approved by Cameron for the 2003 Extreme release. Different processing / encoding may have been done on top of that transfer, but the one transfer is the root of all these releases.

The Skynet edition has had some "manual dirt cleaning" - I don't know if the Japanese one came from before or after that cleaning process. Regardless, the Japanese and the original UK releases seem to be the best in terms of not mucking around with digital processing or encoding problems.

I know this thread is for Terminator 2 but has anyone picked up the "remastered" version of The Terminator? since it was suppose to be released today and if so how is the quality and is it worth upgrading from the 2006 MGM release?

I think the only thing new with this new release of the original film is the cover.

So is the UK/Japanese release the one done by Universal that is available in Australia? Cause if that is the one approved by Cameron and doesn't have excessive DNR applied to it like the Skynet edition then I will pick that up instead.

Having read all the reviews and remarks on this forum, I think I'll stick with my UK release ... at least for now. Maybe later down the line we'll get a 'definitive' version, at which point I'll consider double-dipping, but for now, I don't really see a reason to drop my UK BD.

It's not remastered as I understand it. The new Lowry version is still in the works. This is just a repackaging of the previous transfer.

Am I wrong everyone?

It looks like I'm going to stick with my UK release until a real remaster is done.

I pulled this pic from AVS.

Weird that the Skynet version looks so faded...In terms of video, I thought they were going to be similar transfers...I have the JP version but I'm gonna rent the Skynet edition anyway for comparisons sake.
