DVD beaver review up
http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film2/DVDRe...et_blu-ray.htm

Sounds like I'm going to be holding on to my UK copy
Shame as I was hyped to buy this as it has most of the extras on it. But the transfer has to come first.

Notice that they don't mention the UK existing blu; can anyone confirm that the much touted Japanese blu-ray is essentially of the same quality as the UK version I have?

I just read the review but comparing the screenshots of sarah holding the gun, it really seems like Skynet Edition is the best picture imho.

I will pick this up and live with it.

I just finished watching the Skynet version in it's entirety.

The inital screen advises you that you are not presently connected to the internet (I'm not), so you can simply press CANCEL to proceed.

Firstly, the default DTS Master Audio track is a huge improvement. Quite punchy and quite loud. Arguably, worth the price of admission alone.

Secondly, the video. I noticed a few closeup scenes where faces appeared to have a polished look, where DNR was most noticeable; however, there were also many scenes that looked quite sharp. All things considered, the overall video presentation was fairly good. Generally, I liked what I saw.

One obvious thiing I did notice was the very long loading time required on my BDP-S350 blu-ray player. I'm quessing, worse than any of the three POTC titles.

I can also confirm that you do get to choose the three versions of the film from the main menu. The extended special edition version is obtained by entering the five-digit code for judgement day: 82997

I should mention that I'm using a 50 inch 720 DLP so you lucky 1080p owners may or may not have a difference of opinion on the video quality.

I checked out the comparison on DVD Beaver and I am sad to say that the the original Lionsgate release is the best looking. It is the same transfer as the skynet edition, without the damn DNR. The original release has grain, is sharper, and looks more filmic. Granted, I am only going on the screenshot comparison on DVD beaver.

Actually there is a Geneon edition that supposedly better than the Lionsgate and thus better than the Skynet edition too.

The original Lionsgate version clearly shows Linda Hamilton with more facial detail than the Skynet. From what others are telling me, it's the case with the entire movie.

Lionsgate dropped the ball on this one.

Why in the world is the Japanese version of this title ~$55 (as of the date of this posting, according to XE.com)?

There really must be something to it being better. Does anyone know if it's presented in English, and without subtitles? Basically, just as you'd expect to see it if you watched it in the theater here in the United States.

Because it's steelbook! Because it's Japan edition!

Thank you for the link. I am trying to sort through that mess of a review. That site is terribly laid out (and poorly edited for grammar and spelling, for that matter).

Is the actual spoken voices of the characters in English? If everyone is speaking English (i.e. NOT dubbed with Japanese) and there is the option to remove subtitles, then I may end up going with this version.

Ah, OK. The steelbook aspect is what does it. I'm kind of a n00b when it comes to ordering imported movies. This is why I'm asking so many (seemingly retarded) questions about this particular movie. I really want the best, because it is one of my favorite movies ever.

I'm so confused with all these damn T2's. So is the new Skynet Edition worth buying? Or should I just hold out for the Geneon Edition or whatever?
