I'm guessing, this years being anniversary 20, that we will see a 3D re-release and Blu-ray 2D / 3D release in 2016, right on the heels of Avatar 2 & 3.

In the meantime, certain release is Titanic in both 2D and 3D. The rest is up for grabs. My guess is Terminator 1 will come out remastered first.

if u want an amazing transfer, nothing but the best for T2...is obviously the discounted and very expensive japan edition. Terminator 2 v2 verison that is. it blows the skynet edition away.

Hmm, it's made from the same master, just a different encode. That's really marginal improvement, it's not like they did a 4K scan and only issued it in Japan.

The aussie blu-ray is on par with the japanese one, with slightly differing colours

You're being overcritical! In the blu-ray format, there are only two Terminator 2 releases. And what do you mean "an outdated master" because, there should be one studio master copy of the film.

If Majestyk is willing to pay a high price to import it from Japan! Paying $50.00, or more for the Japan release, vs the U.S $10..49 release on Amazon, should be a no brainer. The difference between the two releases, could be psychological because one is imported, and cost more (that if there is a significant difference at all!) According to the reviews on Amazon Japan's website, many Japanese didn't like The Terminator 2 blu-ray release, they preferred the DVD.

We're not talking about the studio master copy, but the HD master, used for the DVDs and now the Blu-rays. A new scan of the film needs to be made, but we don't know if Cameron is working on it right now/already approved it/is supervising the HD masters of his other movies. He's very hands on considering the home video releases of his movies, so it might take a while before we get a good looking release.

He approved the transfer for DVD years ago, I doubt very much he had any say so on the Skynet Edition.

Like others have said, it needs rescanned, not smeared with filters to try and disguise how dated the master actually is.

A new master would be great, but I'd rather he focus his energy on getting True Lies on blu.

It's disrespectful to call this a classic.

Cool

Ok, for arguments sake, let's say that I would be more than happy with the Skynet version of T2.

What about the original? It has been re-released no less than 3 times as a blu-ray and the quality is reportedly no better than the DVD. Just like my copy of Total Recall - it's not HD at all.

I'm not budging until we see a better transfer for the original. (crosses arms) I can wait since I have waited 5 years already!

Robocop took too long and I gave up on the franchise, and sold off my DVD's. Never have and never will buy the blu's. Don't make me say, "Hasta lavista, baby." to the Terminator franchise.

It's been released three times but just a repackaging for the last two releases. All three blu versions are the same.

Actually, Terminator 2 was released in Blu-ray twice! The first Terminator 2 blu-ray, was released in 2006, and The Skynet Edition, plus The 6 Disc Endoskull Bust Limited Edition, (with the same transfer, as the Skynet Edition, but different packaging) were both released on May 19th, 2009.

It's ok to disagree that it's a classic but if you're telling someone they're disrespectful for calling a film a classic then you're just enforcing your will on people.Whether a film is a classic is entirely someones opinion. It could be a classic to one person and aload of rubbish to someone else.

I don't give a shit about another T2 release. There's been a million releases and I'm done with it. The UK Optimum BD will be the last time I ever purchase that film. I want True Lies, damn it.

I was responding to a post about the original Terminator getting three releases, not T2.

Please ignore the troll, everyone. He's doing the old "I'm too damned cool to call a classic a classic" number in several other threads, too.

He says Aliens sucked, too. If my eyes rolled any harder, they'd roll right the **** outta my head.
