Here is what the HDR had to say about the upcoming Blu-Ray editions

Quote:
There was absolutely no chance Lionsgate Home Entertainment would sit idle on an opportunity to release the umpteenth version of Terminator 2: Judgment Day on home video with another entry in the saga hitting theaters on May 21. At least this time the offering will be extremely hard to top.

On May 19, Lionsgate will release T2: Judgment Day on Blu-ray Disc in an all-new "Skynet Edition" maxed out with a new THX-approved 1080p transfer of multiple versions of the film (likely via seamless branching), 6.1 DTS-HD Master Audio and D-BOX Motion Control Code.

Not stopping there, Lionsgate is including 8 hours of interactive bonus features ranging from games to picture-in-picture to BD-Live applications all crammed onto a single BD-50 disc.

* Picture-in-picture of behind the scenes video, text commentaries and multimedia galleries
* Storyboard-script mode – view storyboards and read the script while watching the film
* Interactive quizzes and games
* BD-Live enabled, featuring games, extra content and more for Internet-connected players
* Audio commentary with 26 cast and crew members
* Audio commentary with director James Cameron and co-writer William Wisher
* Includes THX Optimizer

In addition, Lionsgate is packaging the new Skynet Edition with the Extreme Edition DVD and Ultimate Edition DVD versions into a Limited Edition T2 Complete Collector's Set. Paired with a digital copy of the film, these six discs together include every bonus feature ever produced for Terminator 2.

Better yet, all six discs in the Limited Edition T2 Complete Collector's Set will come with a 14" T-800 Endo-skull bust that plays sound effects from the film while its eyes glow red.

With a retail price of $174.99 the Limited Edition T2 Complete Collector's Set doesn't come cheap. That's why the Skynet Edition is available separately for a mere $29.99.
6.1 DTS-HDMA is going to be kick @$$!!
For those of use who want the head, we have 3 months to save for it. It is possibly the best collector's edition ever. I may end up purchasing BOTH editions: the Skynet edition so I can enjoy watching and hearing T2; and the skull set to keep as a sealed collectable.

I found nothing wrong with T2 it was T1 that was Garbage on Blu-Ray

I will have to rent T2 when it comes out and see if the picture and sound got any better before buying it again.

I actually think T1 looks more film-like than T2. T1 looks very natural - film grain in tact, hardly any EE....T2 more of the opposite.

Regarding T2, it may have been somewhere on this site as I can't remember, but the screenshots between the current MPEG-2 and the Japanese AVC encode which I believe this new U.S. version will use were very close in PQ. The Japanese version looked a bit better, but I'm still not sure if it's worth me upgrading.

In addition, 2011 is the 20th Ann for T2 and given how many times Lionsgate has released this title on home video formats, I cannot help but think another version will come out at that time.

I WANT ALL 3 VERSIONS ,the T2 Ultimate Edition DVD contained 3 versions of the movie (I hope the blu will too)
Theatrical Cut.... 136 min. 04 sec.
Special Edition.... 153 min. 02 sec.
Extended Special Edition .... 155 min. 43 sec... only accessible as an Easter-egg by punching in Judgment Day August 29th - 1997 by doing the following....
press 8/enter
press 2/enter
press 9/enter
press 9/enter
press 7/enter
It will then say..... The future is not set , and play the hidden version.

Assuming the extended cut is on the Skynet edition, I will be double dipping this for sure. That bust looks cool but I don't have $100 to spend on it!

On the japanese steel version, there's a clear difference of PQ between the SE and the TC, the SE being superior in both light, contrast, and colors. The japanese TC version features the original color timing of the movie, whereas the SE is the "new" extreme HD remaster from 2003.
I'm guessing this new disc will offer both the TC and the SE minted from the extreme 2003 master, so that make the japan release unique.

for T1, the new forthcoming remaster will hopefully kill all other versions out there, especially the current blu-ray which have the whites all burned and is mpeg2 on a BD 25. It looks marginally better than the DVD.

I think too often people mistake a movie original resolution with that of it's bad encodes or bad masters. I saw T1 probably 12 times in the cinemas, and so far, the only DVD approaching the movie experience is the original Image disc, but it was in 4/3.

That 6 disc edition looks tempting, time to trow out the old artisan discs !

I have no intrest in the 6 disc edition as there is no point in having the exteme and ultimate editions as the extreme contains a HD WMV version on the 2nd disc and your getting a digital copy AND bluray so why would u need the WMV version.

I might just get the T2 skull from the UK or germany as they are much cheaper and just contain the new T2.

will the sky net edition have the super-duper extended edition of the film? i like that version the best. it's the same version you get on the old dvd UE by entering the code (whatever the hell that was; i forget now).

actually, seamless branching like they did on the dvd would be tops.
