Seems kind of inevitable, honestly, that T2 will get the 4K treatment someday. Given that it's a Cameron film, 3D also makes sense.

If the 3D is done right (which it could well be) and if it's anything like Titanic's 3D conversion with the added bonus of being remastered at 4K, then I really can't wait.

Also if it's anything like the Titanic 3D release, then we will hopefully get both a 2D and 3D version of the remaster.

The Skynet version itself is OK from distance, and the DNR is not anywhere near as bad as other titles, but I would love to see it receive the same remastering as The Terminator, minus the teal.

The Terminator wasn't 4k, was it?

Pretty sure they said the remastered version was in 4K - don't have any links to hand though.

Can anyone let me know if this is the superior Japanese version that people talk about?

http://www.amazon.co.jp/ターミãƒ...s=terminator+2

Its working out around £30 delivered to the UK which aint bad I guess. There is a much more expensive version as well but I'm assuming its a limited steelbook or something?

http://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B002P69TM2/

Many thanks for any help!

Yes, that contains the superior transfer and the 6.1 audio, and is much less expensive than the exhorbitant 1st release steelbook.

Id be careful because I can really see T2 getting a proper remaster at some point a la Terminator and Robocop etc. Its too much of a cash cow for them to ignore it for too much longer and it does need it.

I keep hearing that T2, The Abyss, and True Lies are all getting 4k transfers but when? The next Avatar is not due out until 2016 so Cameron should have a small window to get these done. The Skynet Edition is a DNR crapfest that used an almost decade old master back in 2009. It time for a proper release!

True Lies and The Abyss have already been remastered by Reliance Media using the Lowry Digital method.

You might be able to get a UK old Optimum release (barebones) with no DNR for cheaper than that Japanese one. Its only the Directors Cut but thats the only one I want to see anyway.

I haven't been following the other two you mentioned, but I am pretty sure that whatever you "heard" about T2's 4K restoration/remastering are just rumors not based on what James Cameron said, but on common sense and wishful thinking: The fact that the current master is outdated combined with the sheer magnitude of the movie. And the fact that Studio Canal have done a 4K restoration of another much smaller Arnold movie, Totall Recall, even though it can be argued that the first master of Totall Recall is better than the current T2 master.

Thats right. Hell, they've already been aired on HBO or one of the movie channels. Where's the blu-ray's at now?

I didnt know Total Recall was 4k. I had always thought it was a 2k scan off of the OCN. anyway, i have it and it does look fantastic!! As far as T2 goes, i read something with Van Ling saying when Cameron gets the time, it shall be done.

The directors cut is the one with the "Michael Jackson" ending, right? That makes me laugh every time I see it, everything else added back in is great. The Kyle Reese dream sequence, the terminator smile scene etc.

No that's the 3rd cut - it was an easter egg on the dvd I had. It also has a creepy scene where the T-1000 "feels" his way around Johns room - that was worth keeping, the MJ reference makes me cringe. I'm going by memory as I got rid of the dvd as it was PAL and I was too used to the NTSC laserdisc.

Thanks, there is some many different cuts. I liked that added scene too where the T-1000 searches through John Connor's room. I got rid of the Skynet edition a few years ago and only have theatrical cut now, I am waiting for a new release to come by to revisit the different cuts properly.
