If you care about the film looking like film then get the 2015 Lionsgate BD and be done with it.

I’ve got the Skynet Edition blu-ray, and the picture quality is excellent.

Sadly the extras are extremely annoying as they can seemingly only be watched PIP whilst you’re watching the film?!

Just finished watching this and, having just watched the original film yesterday, I was surprised that I liked the original a bit more! Perhaps not an original observation, but I've always been much more familiar with T2 than the first one, but watching them back-to-back made me realize is more fun, though T2 is good as well. Now to watch my way through the rest of the sequels!

In my honest opinion, the best of the post-T2 sequels is Salvation, because they dared to do something original without constantly rehashing the time-travel storyline. Sam Worthington easily steals every scene he's in, and Christian Bale made for a decent middle-aged John Connor.

Is the T2: Skynet Edition blu ray a significant upgrade from the T2: Ultimate Edition DVD? I am more than happy with the DTS sound on the DVD but should i upgrade? Is the picture quality that much better too? Thanks!

Don't get Skynet edition, get the 2015 Lionsgate reissue. Much better picture quality than any other BD edition.

Ok, how about the sound? Is the Lionsgate 2015 reissue blu ray a significant upgrade in sound compared to the Ultimate Edition DVD?

Having now watched the first five films, I can support this viewpoint! Salvation was definitely a breath of fresh air after the very same-same plots of the first three films.

I'm hearing this version may not play anymore? But I watched it last summer and it played? ETA: I ordered the last re release on the safe side. The 2015 one.

The 2015 Lionsgate disc is the same old master as the previous DVD and BD versions, just a superior encoding of it. It's the 2017 BD you're thinking of that has the new grading from the 3D conversion.

Well, the Skynet disc is gone. I looked at it the other day and it's bronzed and the outer edges have this peeling / rust look. Threw that one away and put my copy of 2015 Blu-ray in the Endoskull set. That's a little more space conserved.

I need to check mine. The only reason I've kept it is the extras exclusive to that disc.

Yeah. That was the only reason I was dealing with that disc, after buying the 2015 one. It's kinda sad, but funny thing is the Extreme Edition and Ultimate Edition DVDs that come with the Endoskull set are perfect after all these years.

Does anyone else feel like the LFE is overloaded in the audio track? I mean, check the opening battle scene for example. It's fine until that hunter killer i.e. flying thing crash. When that crash happens it seems to me that front channel bass is not matched to the bass that is in LFE channel and that LFE output is instantly multiplied sounding unnatural. In other words bass content of the speakers don't support the subwoofer to blend in which makes this track very difficult to get sound well integrated if the subwoofer is not located near the front channels and TV/screen. As a comparison, no such problems in a Terminator Genisys which originally was mixed with LFE present unlike T2 for obvious reasons.

Need to check the 5.1 in 4K disc, maybe they have tuned the track as it sounded different without subwoofer compared to this 6.1 track.

I’ve got the Skynet disc and have always thought the extras were useless as they can only be viewed PiP rather than full screen. Why did they do that?! The old DVD’s are better for extras.

It’s a real head scratcher that after all these years they can’t come up with a decent version of the transfer coupled with all the extras!

I'd love to know why during that one shot of the resistance soldiers storming after the HK's early in the scene, all the laser sound effects sound really far away and there's no foreground sound effects like the soldier's footsteps or them yelling or anything. All I mostly hear is the music.
