I went to Target today and picked it up for 5 dollars, I mean that's just a sweet deal. But when I got home and took the disc out of the case, I noticed the disc had weird streaks on the data side, as well as hairline scratches. I thought this was odd for it being a new disc, especially since in my experience its very rare for blu ray's to be scratched when they're new. So I went back to Target to exchange it and got a new one. Well when I got home and opened that one, it had the same streaks and hairline scratches, in the exact same place on the disc.

Now I was thinking maybe Target just got a bad batch, I mean that is possible. But I remembered a few weeks back I got First Blood from Amazon because it was cheap, and the disc had the same streaks and scratches. So I'm thinking Lionsgate may have shipped a bad batch of a number of their titles to retailers, and it may just be their budget titles.

I contacted Lionsgate tonight and I hope they at least look into it.

As for the streaks and scratches causing playback issues, I can't say if they do or don't. But my philsophy is this, if I buy new I expect a flawless disc because if I want discs that are scratched and are all smeared up, I'd buy it used on Ebay.
I have no issues with my Target disc. Sounds like your dipping into a bad batch at that particular store.

Yeah, thats what I'm thinking..

The disc works it just looks like someone played catch with it. Lionsgate is sending me the info on how to get a replacement since the local Target obviously just got a bad batch, or screwed them up in the stock room.

Angry BEWARE of Target $5 blu ray.

I just picked up Terminator 2 blu ray from from target for 5 bucks. Got it home, opened it up. The cover has the "skynet edition" artwork indicated all the special features but the disc itself says the 137 minute theatrical release.

I popped it in and sure enough it is only the theatrical version.

So basically it's the first blu ray edition in the new skynet packaging. NO WONDER IT WAS ONLY 5 BUCKS!

That's really odd. I picked mine up a little over a month ago and not one problem here. 5 buckas at Target as well. Must be a manufacturing error.

All three copies I got from Target with the scuffs and scratches, all three discs I believe said the same.

WOW! That sucks. The first release only had lossy Dolby Digital and DTS. Plus the skynet edition was remastered with lossless, and much better picture quality. My $5 target edition came with all that.

Dont you have to enter a code (the date of judgement day) to enable the extended edition?

I think that's only on the "flipper" version of the Ultimate Edition DVD. The 2-disc version has both available right away.

Same here... I've been posting this problem in another forum. Are they bum copies or are they 5 bucks because the manufacturer messed up?

Thanks

That's only for the "Extended Special Edition", which just adds a deleted scene and an alternate ending that you can already watch in the Bonus Features menu. The Theatrical Cut and the Special Edition should both be available without a code.

I couldn't get the LG rep I talked to, to respond to the theatrical cut part, they just repeated the whole "send it back to us or return it to the retailer" bit. Hopefully, I'll get my replacement this week.

I got my replacement from Lionsgate today and the replacement is the proper Skynet edition, and there's no scratches or smears on the disc. I knew there was something wrong with the three copies I got from Target, other than the scratches and the smears. The discs themselves had different artwork, they featured a scene from the film as the artwork. The proper Skynet edition disc features the same art as the box art. So those of you thinking of picking it up at Target, be careful because I can now say with certainity that my local Target got a bad batch so there's a good chance other Targets did as well.

But although Lionsgate made a "boo boo", I have to give them props for only taking a few days to send out a replacement.

My last Blu-ray player took a couple of minutes to load this. My new one, not so bad. Still, yes, crappy menus.

From what I can see, the 2-disc "Premium Edition" steelbook [GNXF-1012] (with both the theatrical cut and longer "Special Edition" cuts on separate discs) is OOP, but the single-disc release [GNXF-1003] (with only the disc with the longer SE cut) is currently available.

Amazon.co.jp (¥3,634 + ¥2000 express shipping) ≈ $72 (fluctuates due to JPY/USD exchange rates)

CDJapan (¥4700 + ¥500-¥1700 shipping, depending on speed selected) ≈ $65-$80 total

YesAsia ($61.49 including free shipping)

Note that both discs (Theatrical + SE) of the OOP "Premium Edition" had bonus features interspersed between them, so you won't get the full complement of extras by getting the single-disc SE release. If you have the old "Ultimate Edition" DVD set, I'd keep it around as you'd otherwise be missing "The Making of Terminator 2: Judgment Day" (30min) and "The Making of T2-30 - Breaking the Screen Barrier" (about the theme park ride; 23min).

Thanks for the info. At that price, I'm keeping what the US of A provided for me!

I originally owned the Skynet version before buying the 2-disc Japanese Premium Edition Steelbook, but the notoriously slow disc loading and sluggish menus killed the experience for me.

However, given the price differential (currently $5 for the US "Skynet Edition" release @ Amazon vs. $60+ for just the single-disc Japanese release) I can't blame you for staying domestic.
