I still have the MB BD season sets of Moribito. Is it worth the upgrade for the Viz set?

They changed the video on the newer Viz set from 1080i to 1080p, but I heard a few people say there isn't really any difference in the PQ. Also, to rectify the "In a Tunnel" audio issue on the JP track of the original discs, Viz didn't fix the track, they just removed it from their release. So, not really sure if it would be worth the upgrade, unless you can get it pretty cheap. I have both sets, but have never watched the Viz release, it still sealed on my media shelf, lol...

Thanks for the info. I'll probably just keep the MB sets. I'm always hesistant when upgrading from blu-ray to blu-ray (unless it's a HUGE improvement). I've got too many imports/aniplex titles on my radar to justify it right now.

Media Blasters' version has worse compression, while Viz's introduces some ghosting (though nowhere near as bad as Sailor Moon) because of the IVTC. It's one of those things where you need to pick your poison. If you don't have an issue with your current sets, I'd say just keep them.

If you look at the comparison I posted on the last page which was quoted on this one, you'll notice there's a HUGE difference between MB's monstrocity (seriously, it's one of the worst R1 anime BD's around) and VIZ's, and VIZ's actually is able to compare to the Japanese Blu-ray (which should of course still be the best release). Here's one of the biggest differences.

VIZ | MB | JP

I just use R1 to refer to any NA releases or the industry. "The R1 anime industry" for example. Plenty of others do it too.

Default Mai-HiME Japanese Blu-ray with English subtitles and silly dub

Stats in the spoiler. I think it looks GREAT on my awesomely awesome setup. Better than Read or Die, which I believe was a regular ol' upscale. RahXephon, Toradora and Stellvia are the bottom-of-the-barrel I have to compare with, and this is completely different.

As I said, people first thought it was an upscale, then thought it wasn't. Sadly the Mania thread is long gone, so verifying if it was a recomposite or not is tough, still looks rather good though.

In any case, glad to see My-Hime Blu-ray screenshots again. Can't wait for those Blu-rays to hit, and may we use these to compare against FUNi.

If it is actually merely an upscale, then it's the best I've seen. Some cuts do look like they might merely be upscales, while the rest might be recomposited. I don't know; all I can say is that this set is worth every penny.

It'll be a while before I can get Otome, but I'll be looking forward to it.

Parasyte is another Sentai release with loads of banding. It's really annoying.

So: Parashite.

It has the same menus and such as Akame ga Kill. Parasyte was authored by Joel McCray; wanna bet he also did Akame ga Kill but not Nozaki-kun?

Not unless you're gonna watch it it on a 100" set-for most sets the quality difference is negligible at worst, most people aren't gonna notice or care.

Question, does anyone here have the Madman Blu-ray release of Fate/Zero? How does it compare to the MVM UK release (which was compared to the AoA release here)? As we know, it's very unlikely a standard edition of the Blu-ray is going to come from AoA (most likely from AoJ not allowing them to do so), so anyone wanting the dub is going to have to go with either the UK or Australian release. I've had the import set with the translation booklet for a good 4 years now (though I'm still missing the second set....), so I'm good there with the subbed version, but I'd also like to have my hands on a release with the dub.

Also, how does the UK release look in terms of packaging compared to the Madman release?

The UK and AU discs should be the same. In fact the UK discs have the Madman logo printed onto the discs and show the Madman logo during boot up.

Discs are exactly the same - as in it's the exact same disc in each release. MVM doesn't have the facility to author Blu-ray discs themselves so they piggyback off of the US/AU distributors. Packaging wise - they are pretty poor at doing their own designs so they tend to take Madman's/Hanabee's cover sleeve and edit in their own logo and the BBFC logo.

TLDR: Same discs, and barring logo changes - same packaging and cover design.

PQ Alert! PQ Alert!

Releases March 30th. Japanese with English and Korean subs.

Korean Summer Wars Blu-ray Re-release at KimchiDVD

Most likely will be better PQ than the Funi Collector's Editions, even?

Yes I have it (along with the chipboard box to hold both parts) and while others say it has problems it looks and sound very good to me. Plus it costs way less than the aniplex us sets did. The box looks really nice and the case art is good too.
