I haven't seen it in 1080p, but I have the UHD Blu, and yes, it looks better than any 1080p anime I've seen. It's a noticeable jump.

I've been meaning to find out the answer to this question for a while. Does anybody know what the best version (Audio/Video) of Ghost in the Shell is to get?

There's seems to be so many different versions between US, JP, UK, 1.0, 2.0, 1.0 JP Standalone release, 2.0 bonus disk release) I've been searching all over the place to try and figure out the answer. But does anyone on here know?

I think you'll find your answer here.

Thank you. Have you seen this: https://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/product/...=AN1VRQENFRJN5

Is it just a reissue, hard to tell from the translation.

The Japanese 2017 re-release contains a revised booklet and special features that weren't included on the previous Blu-ray (Theatrical/VHS/LD commercials and the Digital Works docu). The language options are the same.

The 4/7/17 release date isn't a coincidence either, as it's the same date that the live-action film hits Japanese theaters.

For $40 shipped, I might as well sell my 2007 BD/DVD box for a profit and get this one instead. Never was a fan of DVD-sized boxes for BD releases like those Bandai Visual did for their early combo packs. Let's just hope that it keeps the same subtitles and doesn't use the crappy ones that were made for the US/UK "25th Anniversary" release.

Just posting a link to a fairly informative review posted over on FP for the Gundam Thunderbolt 4K UHD release:

Default Nichijou (Funimation release)

Saw a BDINFO scan of Funi's release of Nichijou, looks like it's 4.5 - 4.8 gigs per episode, which equals 23 mbps for the video along with a single Japanese Dolby TrueHD 2.0 audio track @ ~1100 kbps.

Note that Japanese BDs had LPCM 2.0 audio only, so it's not like we're being short-changed in that respect. However since the JP BDs were about 8 - 8.5 gigs per episode, I'm pretty sure that their video bitrates were in the mid-high 30s.

Buddy of mine on Twitter called @gravitypriest also gave his review of it, and minor banding in some high action sequences aside, FUNimation apparently did a damn good job.

Thanks for the link, appreciate it. I guess it's a safe buy then, which is a very good thing since I love the series.

I hate to say it, but I never pre-order a domestic anime release anymore (regardless of the licensee) due to myriad foul-ups that happen with the releases. Stuff like Disney's dubtitles on several Ghibli discs, along with the seemingly industry-wide problem of video artifacts from setting too low of a video bitrate, and so on. I still remember the Bandai fiasco with them putting dual-mono Japanese audio on their Haruhi S2 and Haruhi-chan Vol. 1 DVD sets, along with the faulty 5.1 track that ADV used on the Rahxephon movie DVD...

Neat. I hope they start releasing more anime in 4k, especially the older stuff shot on film.

Does anyone know how the quality of the UK Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works release differs from the AoA release?

It's brighter and has inferior bitrate. The usual AoA vs. UK/US stuff.

I think the UK/AU release actually has the same color space conversion problem found on a few Justin Sevakis authored releases. I used the same fix on the screenshot you posted many pages ago and colors look the same as AoA afterwards.

Was wondering how the picture quality for the UK AL release of Claymore is like? Same as FUNi, better, or worse? Bitrates, etc.

Many thanks. Will stick with FUNi version then but UK physical extras are nice for those that want it.
