Ho-ho! I've been sent a tip about a fanripper release of Batman Ninja that supposedly has subtitles that are a real translation. Interestingly the subtitles are PGS -- which suggests they are from a disc release that also is not dubsubs. But I don't know the source.

Mind PMing me that tip? (I'll check tomorrow morning, and if I happen to find it, I can compare to the BD subs to see if it's the same source)

Mind Game FR/UK BD review in French + screenshots: http://anime-hd.fr/2018/04/27/test-mindgame/

There have been some complaints about banding on Mind Game, not only in the French review, but also in this UK review.

Night is Short, Walk On Girl FR/UK(?) BD review in French + screenshots: http://anime-hd.fr/2018/05/01/test-n...-walk-on-girl/

Also, screenshotcomparison.com is back, but database has been wiped again. Re-uploaded Cowboy Bebop Funi vs Dybex comparison: http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/113209

I wonder if the "international" kickstarter edition of Mind Game also have that colorbanding issue.

Can everyone just agree to like, stop using this site? Since they clearly have no idea what the hell they are doing.

"Oh, our database got filled up? Oh well, these comparisons are obviously not something that people are going to want archived, so lets just wipe everything and start anew!"

Looked up the release, and sure enough, both the uploader description and someone in the comments claim the fanrip has proper subtitles.

I'll likely download it sometime in the next week and check it out. But that said, I'm wondering where the subtitles came from.

The BD of Batman Ninja has two sets of English subs. Dubtitles- the exact same script of the English dub, and subtitles, which are a translation of the Japanese. Now, knowing what Japanese I know, I can say those subs don’t seem too far off from what is actually being said.

That said, it is possible they are the same ones from this BD. If anyone downloads that, would you mind sending me just the subs? You can PM me about it if anyone here wants to make sure if they’re the BD subs.

The U.S. does have a real subtitle track?

People who purchased the title on Amazon streaming got both the English dub and Japanese audio/subtitled version. Perhaps the issue is Amazon's "subtitle version" is using the dubtitle track. Early pirate releases might have used Amazon as a source for the English subs and led to this whole controversy.

But if the articles posted around the net about the "localization" process are true, how did this correct subtitle track come into being on the BD? Why did the English dub people have to make up their dialog from a small packet of translation notes? Wouldn't it just make more sense to use the (correct) Japanese subs as a basis and adapt as needed for lip flap and general readability?

So... does the Murica version have proper subs you can select, and this was just an Amazon subtitle selection fail?

I’m assuming it’s Amazon. I sampled the dub with the supposed subtitles to check, and they’re different. I then double checked with the original Japanese audio, and as mentioned before, it seemed right.

So, I think it’s proper subtitles, or highly edited dubtitles (as there are some lines that overlap). Word of warning, the font is bad. That font works fine for live action films, but a in film with heavy use of the colour white, it’s occasionally unreadable. Otherwise, I think it’s fine.

It's also on the Kickstarter version. There's a rip out there that has been debanded by the encoder.

Does the Japanese standard release also suffer from banding?

I think the standard edition and premium edition are the same disc because they have the same language options (JP 5.1/2.0 PCM, EN/FR/ES subtitles).

Any one know something about video/audio quality of Gundam Origin I-IV standard USA (and probably UK - Anime Ltd) set? I mean, it looks similar to Japanese editions?

I think the US one is since it has one episode per disc, the UK one comes out May 28th but has 4 episodes across two BD-50 discs. Regardless hopefully the UK one is the same quality as US/Japan as well no other issues.

The US discs are BD25's, so the UK discs could very well be the exact same encodes.

Agreed. I own the US discs and added the stats to the database here, and I’m sure they’re clones. The only difference is the audio has been upgraded to LPCM from DTS-HD MA and at a higher bitrate, and that several subtitle languages have been removed (so it’s just English).

Bitrates range average from the high 20s to the mid 30s, and even exceed 40 on a few instances (for example, when there’s a ton of mobile suits on screen)- with the overall average ranging between 28 to 30 depending on disc.

Assuming AL uses the exact same encodes, you should have no worries. (Although, Dynit proves their superiority yet again- as mp3dom maxed out bitrate on a BD-25, so if you want the best looking release- Italy it is)

To Love Ru Complete Series from Sentai has a better quality than separately ones? I'm asking, because in box I see 9 disc, but in separately seasons: 2 + 1 + 1 + 2 = 6?

The Batman Ninja Blu-ray has English SDH subs for the English dub and an actual English translation of the Japanese audio in a second set of plain English subtitles.
