It's been over 2 years since I updated it, but the link in my signature also takes you to caps of various releases, though a few don't seem to work anymore unfortunately.

Looking at the Fandom Post thread, the Blu-ray is based off of the Japanese Blu-ray masters. Also I completely forgot about this, but Discotek accidentally released the show edited. The 2016 DVD re-release is uncut. These quotes came from page 5. I'd recommend reading through the thread there for more info (way too much stuff to quote), note the ImageShack links in the thread don't work, so there's a comparison that doesn't work anymore.

Well something to consider is also extras. Unfortunately the RightStuf listing nor the back cover (from what I see on eBay) for the 2016 release lists extras, and there were exclusive extras to both the original Discotek DVD and the Blu-ray. If anyone has the 2016 release and can list the extras or share a screenshot, that'd be helpful, especially also for my extras thread that I badly need to get back to working on.

Thing is, it's been so long since I've had a 1080i release of a digital show. Not sure what to even compare it to. Last edited by slerch666; 04-09-2019 at 12:35 PM. |

Sigh. So sad.
Maiden Japan/Sentai/whatever other company ADV became that might do SD on BD have not fixed their processes for SD on BD yet. Assuming they do. Just got the Armored Troop VOTOMS OVA Collection 1 and it has the same 24p at 30p issues they had on all their other SD on BD stuff. Disappointing but I guess not surprising as this one was likely in the manufacturing pipeline. I REALLY hope they fix this if they keep doing SD on BD... Screen caps taken via VDUB2. English 2.0 DD uncut, English 2.0 DD edited, Japanese 5.1 DTS, and Japanese 5.1 DD. I've owned the BD and both DVDs for Blue Submarine from Discotek. From what I remember, the video quality is the same on both DVDs. I tried to recover the screenshots I posted of the 2013 DVD over on Fandom Post but I was unable to. I only own the 2016 DVD now but I could take screenshots of it if desired. |

Well, the one thing I will give Sentai/Maiden Japan is that they use lossless audio on their releases, whereas Discotek doesn’t. (Well, Nuku Nuku is the sole exception, so I really don’t count it as what they normally do.)

Did anyone ever receive their replacement discs for ReZero Pt 1 and see how they compare to the original release?

An employee on their discord server mentioned they should start shipping out around April 16th. I would expect them to be comparable to Part 1 which wasn't good but at least better than the Crunchyroll stream lol

Sorry this is probably totally out of the blue, but what are these effects at the bottom edges of the frame called? Is it due too bad film or something else I'm unaware of? It only happens on a few frames, but happens enough to be pretty distracting. Just been nagging me for some time now and thought I'd pick the minds here.

I asked Sentai (on Facebook of all places) about the new Gatchaman release, asking if it would feature a new encode. Surprisingly, I got a response:
"The encode is new (the masters are 1080p, which is the standard for BD releases). The extras are not, however." I'm a tad confused though. Were the masters for the previous release sub-HD and upscaled? Perhaps they thought I was referring to the DVD release? ![]() |

I received the FMP Complete Stories JP box yesterday. I can provide comparisons of FMP, Fumofu, and TSR if there is interest.
I can already tell you, THIS is the way I will watch these shows from now on. The TSR op/ed doesn't jerk like crazy because they screwed up the cadence. As I understand it, they were animated at the 24 fps. The show proper was 30 fps. Why? IDFK. But it DEFINITELY screwed up the FUNimation release on BD, no question. Also, someone was asking about Yamato 2199 and 2202. Interest in comparing those? |
