There is a subtle amount of extra LFE "oomph" in the mix, but it does not feel a whole lot different from the 2.0 mix.

Interesting.
Now I don't want to call it yet, but there definitely seems to me, (at least in the screenshots) that there is some mild DNR*. I hope I'm wrong, though. Here's a clip from YT: Still, I'll bet the colors look amazing. *EDIT: Now that I think about it, perhaps since it is 4K, the grain appears more subdued, but not wiped away. Since I don't have an HDR-capable monitor, I can't tell. Last edited by Logan Jones; 04-29-2020 at 04:09 PM. |

With regards to the Hypersonic mix being 16-bit, the main presentation is 89 GB, when converting the bytes to GB, so it's close to the BD-100 limit. UHD allows up to 100,103,356,416 bytes (~93.22 GB), and Akira is 96,136,998,912 bytes, so it is dangerously close to hitting the limit on a disc. If they wanted a 24-bit Hypersonic, the video bitrate would have to be lowered into the 70s.

Pardon my ignorance, but when you say "Ghibli JP", does that just refer to the Ghibli BDs being produced in Japan, or does include the ones from the U.K. as well?
The U.K. ones are listed as being produced by Ghibli. Thanks! |

No BDInfo scan because of an error. I didn't rip the Operation Meteor OVA because it's a clipshow. Sub fans won't care but if you're a fan of dubs there were a handful of releases with lower quality English audio Sword Art Online season 1, Aldnoah.Zero, Fate/Zero and Blue Exorcist: The Movie all have lossy English audio Eventually AoA stopped messing around and since then usually most releases that contain English audio are lossless LPCM or DTS-HD MA Exception being is they release a domestic clone of a Japanese import e.g. Fate/Zero Standard Edition still has lossy English audio but its bitrate is more than double than the English audio bitrate on the Limited Edition sets |

There's three exceptions to this that I'm aware of anyway, those being: Cells at Work (Uses a different video master without the Japanese info cards. No authoring credit.) God Eater (Their only non Aniplex license. Apparently Justin authored this? Looks to have used Bandai's video though.) Kill La Kill Volume 5 (Different encodes due to disc space constraints. Imagica credited with authoring like v1-5.) Video wise they have a pretty much perfect track record, hence why they're liked so much here for that. As Jackson_H stated above though, their earlier releases up until 2015/2016 are wildly inconsistent when it comes to audio for English tracks, with anything from DD 192kbps/DD 640kbps and lossy DTS to 16/24bit PCM and DTS-HD audio. The only other title I can think to add to that list is the Madoka recap movies. The Australian authored counterparts of SAO Season 1, Aldnoah.Zero and Fate/Zero do have lossless 16bit PCM audio though if you're into that, albeit at the cost of awful video in the case of SAO and Fate/Zero. On another note, does anyone know if the later re-releases (Complete collection or Steelbook) of Clannad received a new encoding job?
