(Not from me, but from a friend not on the forums who bought the sets and let me look at the first episode)

Looks shockingly okay despite the pathetic bitrate due to there being 20+ episodes per disc;

Well, the encoding is shockingly okay at least. Still, very heavily DNR'd, though I've seen far worse than this.

Audio is LPCM 2.0 16-bit Dual Mono

Also, here's a first for a JP BD... the x264 encoding settings were left in! Here's the full MediaInfo;

At least it's not interlaced unlike a few other releases from TC Entertainment

It's a damn shame the rest of the series is mastered in composhite.

Controversial opinion: I don't really like how the composite video artifacts were handled on this release. I can understand the rainbowing, and the dot crawl is distracting, that much is true. But the filters used to mitigate the artifacts... eughhh. I think it made it look a little worse.

There are definitely some issues with the filtering. The filtering creates some artifacts that I don't find super distracting in most cases, but in some cases they are. Episode 32 has the worst of those artifacts.

Honestly, the issues of the R2J DVD in the composite video eps aren't too bad most of the time. If I'll ever rewatch the composite video eps, I'll probably watch the R2J DVD remux.

I didn't find anything with the search function, so I'll go ahead and ask: any differences between the US (Sentai Selects) Children Who Chase Lost Voices and the UK (Anime Limited)?

I believe they’re the same disc. There’s one version form AL that has the bonus disc of extras and one that doesn’t.

Yes, with very minor tweaks (added epilepsy warning, trimmed the Anime Ltd promo slate off the end of the documentary)

I just watched it last night and I agree. Maybe its a benefit of having a pretty small TV? Glad to have it in my collection sitting next to the other Kawajiri classics.

It's the cheap looking panning across motionless images, likely due to a lower budget? I love the story, characters, and I love giant robot anime (Mazinger Z, Giant Gorg, etc.) but this is one ugly looking show! It got less distracting after watching the first few episodes. I guess after the 90s I am just not a big fan of the look of most anime due to the digital painting.

5 Centimeters Per Second - Dynit BD vs ComixWave Global Edition BD (Discotek/Manga UK/Anime Limited UK)

From what I've seen there isn't much of a difference most of the time, so I did not bother to take a lot of screenshots, buuuuuut.... there are some shots in the ComixWave Global Edition BD that have been debanded to the point that detail is erased:

Crusher Joe: The Movie - Discotek Media BD

Encountered some issues with ripping the full frame disc. Hopefully nothing went wrong with BDInfo scan. Had to clean the disc several times until the drive was able to rip it at a slow 2.0x speed.

Funny thing is that if you load the Full Frame disc in a region B player, you'll get to see the BD vs DVD comparison video that was made to promote the Japanese BD release. You can bring up the pop up menu, but "Go Back" just restarts the comparison video. Nice troll move lmao

Crusher Joe is one of those 80s anime movies I never got around to seeing. Discotek's release seems pretty great, as it should be coming from them. Might pick it up one of these days.

From what I've seen there isn't much of a difference most of the time, so I did not bother to take a lot of screenshots, buuuuuut.... there are some shots in the ComixWave Global Edition BD that have been debanded to the point that detail is erased:

This was a total blind buy for me, so I didn't know what to expect. Having watched the full frame disc today, I can absolutely recommend the Discotek release.

Not only is the film fantastic, but the presentation looks great and I was even more amazed by the ****ing phenomenal 4.0ch theatrical mix!
