Because otherwise, aside from the slight roughness of the Nozomi pics, you'd certainly be getting more preserved detail, no? Last edited by Spoofer; 02-12-2023 at 04:34 PM. |

Yes, the BD looks like that, and I think it looks significantly better than those DVDs, which are too bright
The colorist was probably trying to go for a more realistic movie-like look in terms of lighting, which fits the show's style and atmosphere The DVD's color is too bright and in my opinion you see more detail than you're supposed to |

people are a little too obsessive over dark details
yeah when you see something was there before and isn't now it can get you all OCD but professional colorists will sometimes opt for rolled off shadows for a different kind of aesthetic and atmosphere. preserving every bit of detail from the source isn't the ultimate priority anyway if you're overly concerned about le preservation of details, the DVD still sucks because look at it carefully. it has a weird warping kind of thing going on that straight up squashes some details out of existence Last edited by Enigmo_1; 02-12-2023 at 06:11 PM. |

Has there been a US release yet of Violet Evergarden that uses the home video masters? Or are we still stuck with rhe broadcast versions until they do a new SKU?

The US release is pretty much a copy of the Madman release that used the broadcast masters. In addition, it's also reusing the Netflix translation that wasn't very good which is an even bigger problem. So that's another reason to import the UK release instead.

I don’t understand why US releases sometimes use the broadcast masters. I can only assume it is all they are provided with by the rights holders sometimes.

Absolutely, Funimation has undeniably demonstrated significant improvements in the quality of their recent releases. In particular, the Arise series was nothing short of impressive, as you rightly pointed out. In fact, I would go as far as to say that the overall quality of the release is virtually indistinguishable from the original Japanese Blu-ray version.
The meticulous attention to detail and the uncompromising pursuit of excellence is evident in every aspect of the production, from the flawless translation to the vividly captivating visuals. Funimation has undoubtedly raised the bar for English dubs and has left an indelible mark on the industry. As a passionate anime enthusiast, I couldn't be more delighted with the recent strides made by Funimation. It's a testament to their unwavering commitment to their craft, and a true reflection of the depth of talent and expertise within the organization. Funimation's recent releases, particularly the Arise series, have set a new standard for English dubbed anime. |

If anyone can confirm there were additional significant changes to the character designs then I'd be more annoyed about it so for now it's not a dealbreaker to buy it. If it was something like Gundam Seed's original broadcast masters, then I'd have buyer's remorse https://imgur.com/a/w5ByALJ |
