I forgot if it's been mentioned; does anyone know what the UK release of Anthem of the Heart is like? I remember that the subs on the Korean releases are really bad. That leaves the Japanese and UK releases, more or less.
My friend's looking to buy it and the question is if there's something horrible about the UK one that makes the little bit of extra trouble and slightly higher price for a used JP copy worth it. |

Got my french BD of Re-Zero a few days ago, so I decided to look into-it and...
Oh my god it's even worse than What I feared. Here's the mediainfo (If I remember correctly Mp3dom asked for the US/UK Mediainfo, it's not the same here but it is as bad or even worse) Yes yours eyes does not deceive you, the video stream is only 2.33GO, and the average bitrate is... 13.6 Mbps... [Show spoiler] And the best is yet to come, look at that sweet color change : http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/116685 http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/116686 Beautiful. if you want to create an MKV from a Blu-ray with all audio tracks, you do not need to select the lossy DTS core of the DTS-HD MA track. When only the lossless DTS-HD MA track is selected, MakeMKV will also rip the lossy DTS core. That is because DTS-HD MA utilizes data from the lossy DTS core to reconstruct the original audio. In your MKV, the lossy DTS cores are present twice. Dolby TrueHD is a different story because the lossless TrueHD component is fully independent from the lossy AC3 core. By the way, which facility did the Blu-ray authoring? Com'On Screen? |

Thanks for the tip, I still don't know why the size of the rip (2.97GO) and the size of the source showed in the blu-ray (5.8GO) are so freaking different, maybe the authoring did something to increases the size artificially.
Speaking of the authoring... Charbon bleu https://imgur.com/a/aGJdiRV |

As an experiment I remuxed the main feature .M2TS (27.9 GB) of Discotek's Urusei Yatsura 2: Beautiful Dreamer to an .MKV via mkvtoolnix-gui. File size of the .MKV is 2 GB smaller (25.9 GB), but the bitrate and everything else was unchanged. That difference in size between the Re:Zero .M2TS and .MKV is still bizarre though. |

That's odd. One thing I notice when I do my writeups is that the file size is smaller than I expect. See, I get rid of the extra stuff, like the "forced" version of subtitles, but there appears to be a loss of around 300mb. It's odd, as subtitle tracks take up around 1mb or less, so by removing the 2 "forced track" what should be about 2mb less becomes 300mb. I don't have an explanation for it.

The difference in size is due to the insertion of "stuffed bits" by the encoder.
This may be needed in different cases, for example to comply with the minimum bitrate you specify. Say you set a minimum bitrate of 10 Mbps and you have a total black video. The encoder would use less than 10 Mbps normally, but you told the encoder to have 10 Mbps at least. So, the encoder encode the picture with the best quality possible using (for example) 2 Mbps, but the other 8 Mbps will be "stuffed bits", useless bits that doesn't add anything in quality, but they're required to follow the minimum bitrate. Other cases are when you set an average bitrate of the stream but the encoder is not able to reach that value so it will add stuffed bits across the stream to comply the average bitrate you want. When you demux that stream (or remux into another container), those stuffed bits gets removed (doesn't contain any information) so the filesize returns to the right one. |

I compared Re:Zero USA/UK to the JP BD for brightness comparison and it's correct. The @Anime French BD is incorrect, and thus is worse, as by brightening it produces more artifacts. That shows that the French compressionist did a poor job regardless of source issues.

Star blazers 2199 is also listed as being on 2 BD-50s, though I suppose that still might not mean an even split. Between that and Dragon Maid, I'm really hoping that means they may be moving towards having more releases split evenly. But I'm not going to hold my breath, or anything.

You guys really need to include the title your talking about so we don't have to hunt way back up the thread to figure out what you're talking about. I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd appreciate it.
