Going by the screenshots provided, it appears that it's using the same black crushed encodes as the original release. Yay.

Does anyone have the Sentai Made in Abyss release? I'd be interested in how it stacks up to the German release.

I’ve heard that there is a crapload of color banding on the JP BD and this holds true for the US BD. Unfortunately I cannot find screenshots that show the banding on the JP BD, but I’m going to assume that the banding is baked directly into the master. Anyway, the US BD comes out slightly better in this comparison (#1 and #3 in particular).

The US BD also has more extras than the UK BD. In addition to the galleries from the UK BD, GKIDS also opted to include select scenes with director commentary (30 min, upscaled) and a feature length animatic (1080p).

The feature length animatic is the main feature with a burnt in picture-in-picture on the bottom right corner. The file size is much smaller than the main feature:

I posted about this elsewhere the at the end of last week, but the UK release of Fireworks (which seems to be the GKids disc) uses the theatrical version of the movie rather than the home video version. In reality though, from skimming through bits of the movie there doesn't seem to be anything major for the most part considering the lackluster animation anyway. There's some slight CG changes (placements wise), redraws, lighting changes and a CG scene framing change. Here's some (but definitely not all) examples of changes I've noticed, and not all of them are positive changes either.

GKIDS
1
2
3
4
5
6

JPN
1
2
3
4
5
6

Just for confirmation's sake as well, that last comparison isn't the wrong way around. For quite a few cuts/scenes I've noticed that their idea of changing the lighting is just to crush blacks in the entire image. As another negative side effect it also makes the dodgy 3DCG tables stand out more.

The UK @animeLtd release use GKIDS discs?
So I suppose no french audio/sub on those, Would be interesting to see if the french version from All the anime use the theatrical or Home video master.

Can't remember off the top of my head whether it has French audio or not, but it has French subtitles.
(Confirmation - it has English Signs/Songs, Full Subtitles for the JP track, Dubtitles and French Subtitles)

I don't I'm afraid. It was done by the same authoring house who handled Amanchu and the first Season of March Comes in Like a Lion though.
I'm personally interested to have a look at it from an A/V perspective, but not enough to spend £20 on a sub only compilation movie.

They reused Aniplex's materials, so A/V wise it is indeed a clone.

Okay, I see. It really is authoring. Generally people use “authoring” to also talk about encoding, so I assumed it was the latter.

It does have banding similar to the German release. I've compared it to this comparison from an earlier post:

The imgur pictures you posted before, did you have the brightness turned up to show the banding more clearly?

I'm trying to take pics of the tv at the places you did in episode 5-6, but it's not that easy, the colours are different on my setup. From what I'm seeing the banding is there on the Sentai release but maybe slightly less.

No need to take pictures of your TV, it's completly useless since it's absolutely not representative of what the real pictures quality is.
Just wait until someone with a PC Blu-ray player and correct software take accurate screengrabs.

I rip with MakeMKV and use a combination of MediaInfo and Bitrate Viewer.

Media Info for audio specs, and Bitrate viewer for video specs.

MediaInfo gives you a video bitrate as well, but it's not accurate- it gives a rounded number and doesn't account for spikes over 40 mbps. That's why I've had to re-do some specs on the database here.
