When Funimation released the home video for Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- Season 1 Part 1 in 2018, there were reports and complaints about the video quality and the banding artifacts on the Blu-ray discs. After investigating with the licensor and Crunchyroll, we confirmed that there was a discrepancy between the materials we were instructed to use for the release, versus the materials that were actually intended for home video usage in our market. We have been discussing with the licensor and alerted them of the issue. We now have the correct materials in hand.

So now what? Because we want to make sure the fans of Re:ZERO have the best quality Blu-ray product for Season 1 Part 1, Funimation is offering a Blu-ray disc replacement program for Season 1 Part 1 home video release because of our mistake. We absolutely made sure to use the best available video materials for the upcoming Re:ZERO Season 1 Part 2 home video product, which releases February 5, 2019. No need to worry about that release!

But wait... if Part 2 uses the new materials... it won’t be a huge upgrade...

I saw the news about FUNi's attempt to fix Re:Zero on Twitter and immediately thought to myself "What will professor who say...?"

Looking forward to someone dissecting the disc. If it's passable, I'll get the inevitable complete set.

So, people on the Fandom post saying Episode 25 of Re:Zero is 35 mbps...

That’s gotta be false. That would be the highest Bitrate FUNi has ever targeted a TV anime if true. If it somehow is real, then why would they target 20 mbps or so for every other episode, and just have the finale be maxed out?

I think it is like Dragon Maid where CR just didn't make an effort to give it to them in time even though they had the OVA's before the show started lol

IMO the banding in those Magus shots is still pretty bad and it's very blocky. That's poor compression and it's in every one of those shots.

Personally, I don't consider that acceptable. My tolerance is low though based off they're competitors being vastly better than them. If Sentai or Discotek had released Magus, it wouldn't look like that because they actually know how to do good compression and they consistently do quality encodes.

Magus is a show I want too so it's encode being like this irritates me

I'm watching Baldios right now. It's a bit rough, as it looks like a straight up HD telecine transfer and not a remaster of any sort. The only errors I've seen so far are subtitle ones, where incorrect words are present or words are missing.

Being licensed by Funimation is basically receiving the death sentence. I really like the LE box, so I'll hunt for a sale.

Worst part is 85% of anime fans will think this is fine and don't even know what banding or compression artifacts are.
