Well, looks like we’re finally getting a native 4K anime with HDR from Production I.G and Netflix. So far, this is the only one I can confirm as the first. There are others which are reportedly 4K, but without knowing/seeing it, I can’t tell.

"From Netflix In 2016, the animation work of some that have been produced in SDR, has been delivered and re-mastered in HDR, the current "BLAME!", "GODZILLA monster planet", anime such as "Shikio people" It has to offer in the HDR.
In addition, original animation work plan to deliver 2019 as "ULTRAMAN" "Saint Seiya: Knights of the Zodiac" also, the delivery schedule in the HDR." Can't say I'm super excited about any of these. |

Sad part is I'll probably have to import whatever they make, as I don't really see a US release happening unless they tout the "First to 4k" angle.
I'm all about that HDR. |

Got my Steelbook of Land of the Lustrous in the mail today. All three Audio tracks are 24 bit DTS-HD MA 2.0, and there are two Spanish subtitle tracks, assuming one with just the signs/lyrics and the other with a full script translation.

Cowboy Bebop - Dybex BD vs Funimation BD
Already posted a comparison of Funimation BD and the caps-a-holic.com Dybex BD before, but I've made a few more screenshots now that I own the Dybex BD. Needless to say, I won't be touching the Funimation BD again. Dybex BD ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Funimation BD ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Worth mentioning that the menus on each disc have a neat unique video with a different theme and music. Here's the video for disc 1: The Dybex BD is by the way region B locked: |

I picked it up from Anime Store. Anime Store is also selling it on their Amazon.fr storefront at a much higher price. I dunno if they deduct VAT for buyers outside the EU.
Dybex version was also released in Germany, but it's only sold by Akibapass and peppermint anime Amazon.de storefront. I don't think they ship outside Germany/Austria. |

Now, the FUNi menu isn’t bad by any means- I like that it has the iconic music and some animated text rather than a still image... but DAMN. The Dybex Bebop set has like the best menus I’ve seen on a Blu-ray.
I miss the days of cool and experimental menus... that was the cool thing about DVDs back in the day, but now it’s just a static image with either some atmospheric music or none at all (Warner Bros comes to mind). |
