I see. Well, then I guess it isn’t a sync error on the BD, but that of the source. It’s a shame, really that such practices are used, but as it saves time, in an already overworked and down-to-the-wire industry, such techniques are sadly needed to stay afloat. Oh well...

On just about all my Funi releases, I have to manually either speed up or slow down the A/V sync by +/- 10mls. But I've never had it change from rwd/ffd, it has always been wrong from the start. What I find most interesting is that it is not consistent, it's either too fast or too slow. I don't know if it maybe has something to do with encoding/authoring. I'm just happy our players allow us to easily fix this. |

You're right that it only happens with Funi discs. I wouldn't be surprised if it's an Oppo bug that is only triggered with the way Funi encodes their discs. Anyway I can usually reset it by going to the menu and/or stopping playback and selecting an episode from the menu. It's still a pain of course. Which Oppo do you have, the 103?
Another problem I have with the Oppo is that if I rewind a bit (just a couple of seconds or so), the subs don't immediately reappear. Often I have to rewind much further (10-20 seconds) to have subs again at the location I originally wanted to rewind to. This is really annoying, and it seems to depend on how the subs are encoded. It generally doesn't happen with non-anime discs. A related problem is that on some discs, when I skip a chapter, the first sub at the beginning of the chapter I skipped to doesn't show, if that sub is immediately at the start of the chapter (often that's the title card sub after the OP) unless I first rewind a bit to before the chapter mark. |

^ I see. Well, I’ll just assume that “A Sister’s All You Need” had badly timed voice acting in the first place, but the FUNi issues I addressed are to show that I’ve never encountered any not in the source. It could be anything, really.

The subtitle issues you described I have encountered quite a bit though, particularly with Sentai releases. I typically skip the EDs so it's annoying when the subtitles won't load for the next episode previews. I always thought that was a timing issue but maybe it is a problem Oppo just never fixed. I think the 103 is legacy now and won't have anymore firmware updates. |
