I guess AL will use the Funi master for the remaining movies. ------ And as usual Funimation has replaced the Japanese credits in the opening: JP opening Funimation opening At least they tried. ![]() |

I thought it was kinda lazy, but oh well...
Also, I ended up replicating a few of your shots of Heaven's Feel with the Dynit BD. They aren't frame perfect, but it's close enough, I guess. Aniplex [Show spoiler] Dynit ![]() Aniplex [Show spoiler] Dynit ![]() Aniplex [Show spoiler] Dynit ![]() The banding in the Aniplex release is also in the Dynit release. mp3dom said he couldn't de-band everything, and this is clear. Still, it matches Aniplex, so no points lost. If he'd like, could you (mp3dom) mention any bits where the debanding is most obvious? If you can remember off hand. It's basically the same as Aniplex but with some debanded bits. Overall, it's worth picking up due to the matched JP BD timing. |

Found a higher quality Youtube vid of JP opening and the bass also has a prominent presence The Japanese 2.0 mix in the Funimation TV series set doesn't have the bass boost. Haven't checked the 5.1 mix yet, but it's late now. |

One of the hardest scene is at ~18:56 with the red flashing light (not completely fixed because there are also lots of details into the sky and the banding is "temporal" which makes it the hardest to fix). Some remarkable differences are at ~22:13 (classroom door opening with sunset), ~25:19, 30:01, 1:16:30 (generally lots of cuts into the Lancer vs True Assassin scene), 1:21:33 (If I remember correctly, this should have also better compression efficiency), 1:28:28 (red strings of the Shadow are lowpass filtered on JP, not on IT), 1:28:33, 1:45:01 and so on... As I said, there are about 100 cuts fixed/enhanced... not all involve the whole frame. Most of them involve only a part of it (even small) because "keeping the details" takes the priority. The third shot doesn't contain banding, the second one contains it a bit, but I've decided to not touch it due to the wall pattern that would got lost. Other cuts with the walls were fixed or enhanced a bit without removing details. |

Can anyone attest to the quality of the Funimation bluray release of Casshern: Sins? I’m sure it’s not great because it’s Funimation but it might also be one of those early digipaint shows.

Sins is also not an early digipaint production, beginning broadcast in late 2008. It aired around the time HD became the norm for anime production. |

I saw Fate/Heaven’s Feel II in the theater and while it was great, the technical presentation was kinda distracting. Now, I get that banding can be in the source, and Part I had a lot too, from what I heard of the theatrical run, but having only seen the second film in theaters, man it was distracting. Like, there’s a ton of it. A lot. In particular, an early fight scene with some bright effects has it in spades, and a few others, which I won’t point out because of spoilers. Now, I’m sure mp3dom will fix as much as he can without sacrificing detail, but if Aniplex doesn’t do any for their own BD, some bits will be unwatchable (there’s a couple shots where it’s FUNi Re:Zero levels of bad, but that’s only like 2 or 3 in total). Just a heads up.

The home video version won't be the same as the theatrical version. HF1 received animation fixes for its home video release. |
