It thankfully blends in with the real grain most of the time, but it's noticeable in dark scenes like when "Dictator" captures Ken.

The scanner noise on Django is enhanced by the use of sharpening. I wish the rights issue surrounding Django is resolved soon so that the Arrow BD with new restoration can go back to sale soon. There's a Nordic 4K UHD and BD release of the same restoration, but the 4K UHD is BD-R and the BD is in 50 "hurtz" mpeg2.

Same. I figured it was a quality release knowing Discotek's usual attention to detail and all that people like Justin Sevakis and Brady Hartel put into it, but seeing the technical breakdown and actual screenshots really puts into perspective all the work that went into it and the exceptional quality of the final product.

Also it's a damn fine movie in its own right.

The Mill Creek BD of Metropolis (the 2001 Rintaro movie, not the Fritz Lang original masterpiece from 1927) has been added to the Caps a Holic comparison.

Two notes: First, as can be seen, the Japanese release is windowboxed like all early Bandai BDs. Second, the UK Eureka BD was handled by David Mackenzie. I know not everyone here goes to other sections of the forum, so I’ll say why it’s a big deal: he’s basically the mp3dom of live action work in terms of compression quality, and the optimization god like Justin Sevakis. Probably the best compressionist on the BD format, IMO (with mp3dom and Justin just behind).

Compression issues on the US affecting the grain, or is the US slightly DNRed? I can't always judge, and I want to learn to know the difference.

Besides the better quality, UK wins for me because it's not a steelbook.

I don't know enough about the movie to know if it's something I want though.

Wish I had gotten the UK release on this, but it was slightly before I went region free.

I really like the Mill Creek steelbook, but seems like the UK one is better. Especially in the brighter scenes. Grain seems somewhat smoothed away in the US one.
