Turns out Anime Limited's release of Castlevania is also plagued by banding

But the real question is whether it is worse than Viz's. Worse than Re:Zero is a strong accusation, because the screenshots provided in the review look like acceptable for streaming quality, whereas Re:Zero vol 1 wasn't.
From my understanding of this thread, Dragon Maid is one of the few TV anime releases from Funi that actually is visually competent, along with FMP IV and Haruhi. Tempts me to buy it, even though it doesn't have the OVA. Last edited by SirYodaJedi; 05-22-2019 at 05:50 PM. |

The extras include the ONA and the actual hot springs OVA, as people have said they are subbed only. |

The FUNi version has a slight tint not on the other releases, but it’s fine. The best release with the dub is the UK release with the replacement disc. You’d have to get the UK release and email Anime Limited about getting a replacement disc, as the original release, while mostly great, had a few brief moments of atrocious compression artifacts.

Besides the compression artifacts, the audio on the original UK BD has phasing problems. UK replacement disc has one or two garbled frames, but it has two versions of the dub (with JP or EN songs)
About that "green tint": iirc it's present on all international releases. Surprisingly I've never seen anyone suggest that perhaps the JP BD is wrong. ![]() The color shift looks a bit like in the US Warner Archive and EU/AU Warner Bros BD of Batman MOTP. As for screen shots... damn you. lol I bought a UHD "friendly" BD-ROM before vacation but haven't done much more than rip a short Alien 4K section. Let me see what I can do. I have no idea how it will handle mapping HDR as HDR really makes the UHD pop. Hopefully there is a way to preserve it... |

Not Blu Ray but I just did a quick and easy comparison of the Manga Ent DVD vs the Discotek Media DVD for Appleseed OVA 1988.
http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/529 Unsurprisingly the Discotek Media DVD wins out but it's by no means a huge upgrade. More or less what I expected. Interestingly the Discotek Slipcover made me realize for the first time that the Manga Ent cover is a mirrored version of the Japanese LD cover (which in hindsight is obvious). Still I'm surprise by just how blatant it is, whereby the Manga Ent cover has the words Olympus Police SWAT on the badge that Deunan wears backwards on the cover lol |

I'd like to know how to take UHD screenshots with HDR (or properly converted to SDR) as well, I've seen MPC HC with Mad VR suggested but that program crashes when I try to play a 4K file or playlist.
