Compression on the SD BD seems a smidge better on that last one. I also didn't deinterlace mine (the show's "intentional" horizontal scanlines tends to exacerbate the problem when frame pausing - LOL). Honestly the overall pallet looks pretty good for a non-HD animated offering.

Anyone know what the subtitles look like? Those Jaundice Joplin™ piss yellow ones or a nice, pure white?

They are unfortunately yellow srt subtitles. Probably the exact same ones on the dvd.

If those screenshots are right, the interlace on the bluray is totally wrong. On the other side, the dvd is right.

http://www.framecompare.com/screensh...rison/DLPDWNNX

If you split the image by fields, the dvd is clean (which is expected, because the interlace shows two different "clean" images at different temporal instances), while the bluray is fieldblended (which is wrong)

It's a supposedly (based only on the screenshots, since I don't have the source) problem that was made before the encoding process (which seems right per se).

As mp3dom mentioned, the Kino SD-BD was field blended which screws up motion horribly. It's the exact same error that inflicted a number of Sentai/Maiden Japan's early SD-BDs like Votoms and Human Crossing.

From what I saw of Human Crossing, motion is so messed up it's unwatchable IMO. These discs should've been recalled and fixed.

These SD on BDs are personally a complete waste. They do nothing to actually help the SD content, I'd rather see it (professionally) upscaled to 1080i(p?) or just on a DVD. Feels like an absolute waste, especially if all they seem to do is have encoding issues.

Wrong. See an actually good SDBD like the ones by Discotek and you'll see why they're the best solution for these types of shows.

One of my friends has the FOTNS one and it looks worse than the DVDs. At least with DVDs on a Blu ray player, it upscales the 480p image. Waste of a Blu ray and does nothing to improve the image.

Some older BD players won't upscale SD content on BDs, that's a player issue and not a fault of the disc.

Fist of the North Star was also one of the early Discotek SD-BD's that has problems with Sony players

We fixed that for later pressings.

Yeah, most BD players upscale SD-BD content great, and the results look the same or marginally better than a DVD. Some... aren't as good at it. But there's no way we would've been able to price 152 eps for < $70 on DVDs.

Nice. Thinking of upgrading because the DVD Complete Series Collection case is a monstrosity.

How do the UK and US releases of Patema Inverted stack up? The US release doesn't have the "Shout" logo anywhere so that's a good omen. Just curious how AL's release compares to GKID's.

I can't answer the actual question but am also curious about that.
Well, I know there's a Blu-ray + DVD Combo Pack copy of that movie at Wal-Mart right now. It depends on what size of a Wal-Mart you have.

I haven't checked them out yet, but the German release (also Region B) of both recap movies includes the English 5.1 audio track (DTS-HD MA).
(No English subtitles included - no English tracks on other German GitS releases)

Nice one, NLS! I looked at my GITS collection just a few days ago and sighed, because I still needed a proper SSS release, and not the UK one
