Are you guys sure the older release is not an upscale? Because the screenshot I linked appears to show stair-stepping pixelation. (Look at Sakura's eyes and contours.)

It seems like the older release was based on a scan that was higher resolution that 480p, but lower than HD. (Maybe around 576p, maybe? Like that Galaxy Express 999 Blu-ray Sevakis encoded.)

I don't think the presence of stair-stepping is necessarily an indicator for an upscale. Some shots also appear to have details that probably would not have been visible if upscaled from SD (maybe if upscaled from 720p, but I doubt that's the case).

There were several shows that sported a very similar look and exhibited the same kind of artifacts as the previous CCS HD transfer: Nadesico, Utena and Patlabor TV off the top of my head. Artifacts being ringing/sharpening, color bleeding/chromatic aberration around edges, and a strange undulating aliasing. I'm guessing it was a particular type of telecine machine or process responsible for all of these, the aliasing possibly due to an interlaced transfer.

I just received Dokuro today and normally would love to do so, but I unfortunately just started nursing school, and between work and my academic pursuits, I probably won’t get the chance to break the seal until May. Sorry!

Gundam The Origin V - VI - Anime Limited BD

They hired Com'On Screen in France this time. It doesn't look terrible or unwatchable and it can look good on many occasions, but it is disappointing compared to mediaOCD's high quality encoding in I - IV.

Anyone out there have the German release of Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust? The mediabook version is enticing, but it has an additional (German) audio track and there is no indication of whether it is a BD-25 or a BD-50 in the database.

I don't know if it's on a BD25 or BD50 (OFDB and Bluray-disc.de have conflicting info), but the size of the main feature is ~21 GB.

i'm assuming the Manga UK SSSS.Gridman is a clone of the funi release, are both discs BD50 or BD25? both discs are split to 6 episodes each which seems unusual for a 12 episode release instead of the usual 9/3

It happens once in a while. The UK release is indeed a clone, and both discs are BD50s. The first disc is 45GB, so they didn't cut corners.

More importantly, does Gridman have the Japanese 5.1 track from the JP BD? The show was natively mixed in 5.1 (I believe) so missing it would be a huge loss.

That's too bad.

I have the 5.1 DTS-HD MA and DTS Headphone: X tracks in a folder, waiting to be remuxed with the Funi BD once I get around to buying it.

Possibly. The Korean BD doesn't have the 5.1 either.

No JP logo on FUNi's release, so no idea who they got it from. The production committee.

tl;dr - casuals can't see banding, so no replacement discs.
