I didn't have much time, but I wanted to create a few quick comparisons between Discotek's City Hunter BD and ADV's DVD. I was quite generous with the ADV screenshots and avoided ghosting (which was a miracle) but it still looks awful compared to the BD. I couldn't toss the DVDs in the trash quick enough, lol.

I forgot that I didn't upload Babylon caps when I did cap dumps of the VAP Blus. I don't know when the master was prepped but I would presume it was probably done when TMS remastered the TV specials, Nostradamus, and Dead or Alive.

Caps for Legend of the Gold of Babylon looks jaw droppingly stunning!!! Looks like a 4k master to me and such lush grain intact!

A damn shame the 4k HDR presentations of The Castle of Cagliostro and Space Adventure don't look like this and ended up being smeary horsedump garbage fires.

Does anyone have access to the Funimation release of Free! Dive to the Future and could post some screenshots from the OP?
The Home Video streams on their website suggest that they may have botched the home video masters and messed up the gamma.
Ironically enough, with the exception of episode 0, both the JP and US BDs for this show don't seem to be available anywhere, so it's not like I can check regardless of how much I really want to.

Does anyone have a recommendation for ripping (legally purchased) Blu-ray discs in Linux? Is MakeMKV + VLC my best option? (Neoz, you can delete this post if it's not allowed.)

MakeMKV is my favourite app to rip an BD 1:1. I do it from time to time with series spanning several discs, and put in on a NAS.

On the very rare occasion I watch something on my iMac I use mpv, but 99,8% I watch my rips on a Apple TV with Infuse Pro.

Don't know on what you'll be viewing it, guess if you say VLC that it will be on a PC? So I suppose you also don't have a dedicated media player?

Thanks for the reply. I generally run an HDMI cable from my PC to my Plasma display and use VLC to playback .mkv files. I recently built a PC and I'm running Linux Mint so I'm just looking for suggestions on how to get the most out of it. I have an LG BD drive and VLC already, I just need a good program for ripping BDs to .mkv and adding srt/ass files for playback.

Bonus question: does anyone know a program similar to imgBurn that can be used to verify bad sectors on pressed discs? Asking for a friend.

MakeMKV does the ripping. It's what I always use.

I'm gonna join the chorus of "don't use VLC". MPV is the better choice at this point performance-wise. Also you mentioned you're on Mint, the new media player they debuted with 19.3 -- I think it's called Celluloid? It's using libmpv so there's an option right there if you're not happy with the (lack of) a UI on plain mpv.

I use Vidcoder to make my .mkv files to which I also add in separate .srt subs. It works fine.
