Checked out Battle Girls. Saw some slight to moderate banding and blocking here and there in the usual suspect areas (fast moving frames, dimly lit scenes, night sky, etc.), but was surprised to see it looking good for the most part. I kept expecting to see the pq turn to shit at any given moment but it held together nicely. Even fight scenes I nitpicked one frame at a time held up well to scrutiny.
First 13 screencaps are from ep1, the rest from ep9 - ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The eps each have around 4.2, 4.3 GB of data - ![]() Around 3.8 gb for the video and 500 mb for the audio. I'll try capturing some Eva 3.33 stats and screens up next. |

Repost due to Imgur being shit. Apologies!
BDinfo scan for Eva 3.33 attached. You'd be excused for thinking Funimation are using the Japanese master this time around, but unfortunately that's not the case. |

Yep, as you dudes are already aware, the banding in funi's eva 3.33 looks pretty terribad, it occurs often and can be seen during normal viewing. Compression blocking looks fugly too, it can also be seen under normal viewing as it crawls around making matters worse. Won't bother with too many screenies here -
![]() ![]() ![]() Despite having a lower video bitrate than its JP counterpart, Funi did give it a respectable amount of data nonetheless, 27.5 GB - ![]() It breaks down to around 21 GB for the video and 6 GB for the audio. That video data amount isn't too bad at all for 97 minutes, I've seen 2 hour Hollywood blockbusters receive less data than that. Which makes the compression issues in Funi's release all the more disappointing. |

It also suffered from compression artifacts? Huh, didn't notice, but then again, the TV in my room is unfortunately only 32 inches and I sit a good distance away... The banding could be worse and more distracting though *Cough*Psycho-Pass, Black Lagoon, SE Lain*Cough*. Still wonder how it managed to turn out this way. They had how long to work on it? But then again, they also botched the Japanese credits which goes down on my FUNi Fails list, so I shouldn't be too surprised.
(May I finally get a bigger and better TV when I eventually have my own place At least I have a 5.1 surround sound system.) Last edited by BigOnAnime; 02-04-2016 at 01:34 AM. |

Yeah I think am just really sensitive to it. I can see the compression (made even worse by crawling) almost as bad as the banding in every other scene. Am viewing on a 40'' screen sitting around 8-10 feet away.
Here are just a few examples of it. I can see a lot of crawling compression on the green wall and on misato's burgundy jacket - ![]() I can see the crawling compression all over the screen in this one, the banding is also pretty bad - ![]() I agree the banding isn't as bad as the titles you mentioned but I think it comes very close. I haven't explored the audio quality that much but as far as the video quality is concerned, this one is a major fail in many ways. Two year delay and we still get crappy video, thanks funi. |

I was also planning to rewatch the BD using the JP BD materials and the dub from Funi's release, but it appears that the JP BD is 24fps whilst Funi's is 23.976. I did wonder why it would randomly desync after a while :/ Last edited by Mangaranga; 02-05-2016 at 08:12 PM. |

Wow, look at that difference. The banding and the compression artifacts have been greatly reduced, if not eliminated altogether, in the jp shots. Thanks for that, mangaranga, and for shame funi, for shame.
Here are timestamps for the other screenies - 1:05:14, 57:59, 58:03. Let me know if there are any other scenes/screenshots that you would like me to match for more comparisons. |

I can't MakeMKV either of the Zvezda discs, so I'll just describe the issue.
Solids tend to pulsate. Backgrounds such as the night sky in the first episodes are the worst, with the entire screen sometimes just blinking like crazy. It's completely nuts. I don't remember seeing the issue this bad before, and definitely not on a Kazé disc. The episodes are split 7/6, but the discs are 15 and 14 gigs, respectively ![]() |

It looks like you have an outdated version of aacs and Terror in Resonance is refusing to open.
Have you installed MakeMKV 1.9.9 yet? That supports the latest version of aacs and should solve the errors. If you already have 1.9.9 installed with those errors then am not sure what else to recommend. |
