I know bitrate means jack if the settings are good, but here I legit think that a higher video bitrate by placing it on more discs would've helped compression. I mean, their releases with more space dedicated to each episode have WAY better compression than that, so I think that they may have been relying too much on bitrate with their general settings.
Honestly, that's pretty fugly. Combine it with not including the original JP audio mix, and it's an easy pass for me.
Would have been better if multiple episodes and the compilation movie shared a disc like the Japanese U.C. Library BD, but I think using DTS-HD/Dolby TrueHD for surround instead of PCM would have also been an improvement.
I won't be upgrading to the U.C Library BD. Will wait for a remaster without the corrupted frames.

I think that DTS-HD MA or TrueHD may have helped, but I don't think it's the main cause of the issues. When all the tracks are added up, it makes for 12.29 mbps, and when taking into account, it allows for a "max" bitrate of 35 mbps from an encoder level (but obviously spikes can go higher than 35 mbps), which is more than enough to make a good disc. So a 30ish mbps encode even with the same audio tracks would be good enough.
I know that wasn't your main point, but I wanted to point it out for those wondering.

For Season 20 onwards and several movies Polyband is in charge.
Plus from what I gather the German Blu's for Pokemon seasons 17-19 are sourced from sped up PAL masters that TPCI provided them with instead of the proper NTSC masters.
Higher bitrate might have helped on 0083, but I think the bigger issue here is the crappy grain management leaving a very noisy and artifacted grain field. The JP shots don't seem to look that much better.
I had no major issues with Nozomi's release of 08th MS Team in that regard, and that master has nicer-looking grain. But probably a higher overall bitrate too, I've only checked the first episode which was 29Mbps.
And 0080 looks great, much thanks to the newer scan with proper black levels, instead of all these Bebop-era Sunrise masters with elevated blacks, questionable saturation and hints of ringing. Nozomi stopped wasting space on LPCM too.
I believe only the theme song "Is There Still Anything That Love Can Do?" is in English.
Also worth pointing out that song (assuming it is the only one in English, can't check as I haven't seen the movie yet) has proper English subtitles this time around rather than just using the English version lyrics. If it is the only difference between the two tracks then it probably makes more sense as to why they went with lossy DTS on the BD for that track this time around too.

His computer monitor is 1440p, but that's not a major issue. What is, is the generic sharpening filter applied (or, at least it looks like one). Colors are an improvement, even with the SDR conversion due to good HDR, but that underlying detail... bruh. Kinda disgusting.

This is probably a relatively short list, but it's somewhat difficult to keep track of differences between US & JP releases let alone UK/European stuff.
Ugh... I'm quite mixed on the presentation. Obviously the UHD is an upscale of the 1920x1080p source, but there is some sharpening applied which is kind of distracting, but I'm not sure how it appears in motion on its own. If it's not distracting, then I might pick up the UHD, as the HDR seems to be very good when compared to the SDR native BD.
I watched the UHD today, downscaled to 1080p and tonemapped in MPV. The ringing and contrast boosted contours from the sharpening are there, but I wasn't distracted or bothered by it (could perhaps be of the downscaling or something).
As much as I prefer a non-sharpened picture, I think I prefer the UHD over the BD because the compression is better and some complex scenes appear to be filtered on the BD:

I used the default settings in MPV (Hable tonemapping and 100 nits target peak) but I also added this line in the config file:

Depending on your preferences, you may like other tonemapping settings more than Hable, but check the MPV manual for that.
I also used the default chroma upscaling setting (bilinear) because I lack the horsepower and UHD chroma is 1080p anyway, but on a 1440p display you may want to use something like lanczos with anti-ringing.
