That's Ok, it's not any big deal for me at all, very happy to have the fixed disc. Is everyone else that got the replacement disc sent out in the first wave going to be in the same boat, though? Some people will likely gripe about the extra postage, lol...

It'll probably be held at the post office and you'll have to go pick it up and pay there.

The site review of the US Tokyo Godfathers is up, so the big draw here for me at least is high quality screenshots.

That said, there’s one big error in the review- it’s implied that TG was produced on cels and shot on film. That’s not the case. It was digitally composited and then printed onto film, which is where this 4K restoration comes from.

Can anyone at all look into this regarding the Princess Tutu Blu-ray?

Sentai/Maiden Japan is gosh darn incompetent as the big word I am not allowed to post when it comes to properly encoded interlaced content.

I contacted them in re: VOTOMS. I worked with the fine folks here to let them know how to avoid the problem in the future. They thanked me for the input and said they would update their encode process.

Every SDBD release after has been impacted in exactly the same way.

I asked yesterday to Sentai in re: the new VOTOMS Ultimate set. They said the set was a re-encode but could not offer what exactly that meant. My guess is that they took the exact same content and instead of encoding properly, took what they had and pushed it to fit on less discs, keeping the same interlaced frame issues.

I wish Justin Sevakis could teach Sentai's engineers on how to properly work with interlaced content as every Discotek SDBD looks about as amazing as you could ever hope for.

Lame I thought it was only an issue with their SDBD releases.

Is this special episode included in any of the Funimation releases or is it exclusive to this Japanese release?

They messed up LotGH as well this way. And it was an order of magnitude more expensive and IMO high profile enough to warrant a fine tooth combing before release. Yet it was treated poorly from an interlace perspective and missing titles for character and location names present in the original Japanese releases.

Most people that own the set, like me, don't want to admit there's an issue with a $700 set though.

Agreed. If they ever (and that is a HUGE if) correct the video issues with this release, they owe it to everyone who purchased the set at full price to offer free replacement discs.

When the character/location/other name issue came up, their answer was essentially...'meh.'

If they accept there is a video isssue I suspect the response would be the same.

Sad.

Sentai/Maiden Japan also can't properly IVTC interlaced masters to 1080p. Glass Mask is riddled with ghosting:

The HD remaster is interlaced because TC Entertainment is the most incompetent Japanese distributor. It's not a good look on Sentai/Maiden Japan when fansubbers were able to properly IVTC the JP BD back to film.

No, this special got broadcast months after the Funimation BD was released.

Their Higurashi Kai Blu-ray had problems, and this remained on the complete collection set.

Actually, it was $800, which makes it even worse.

And yeah, I have it too, and while I've never noticed those issues in motion, when going frame by frame, the issues are insanely noticeable.
