Well yes, KSM is not great, especially for the premium price they're charging in general. And I was told about the Captain Tsubasa release. 50 SD episodes on a BD50 is doable. But let it be a SD content... I don't think SDBD will ever be a thing in Europe. The few people who buy Blu-rays nowadays wants HD.
From what KaizerChef showed of Texhnolyze, the quality felt acceptable. It's blurry but it was likely better than bare DVD MPEG2 encodes. Also MPEG2 is of course out of date but if handled correctly it can be just fine on BD. Btw, slightly out of subject but what's going on with Nipponart? They haven't released anything new for a while now and plannings are empty. |

KSM has improved recently - and their prices are on the same level as other German distributors (which is still premium compared to the US, UK, FR or others).
But unless there are extreme issues, German companies always reuse their discs for any repack or reprint - so these old titles won't get fixed. Nipponart did licence Tsugumomo S2, but date TBA. Their release of S1 was uncensored (Funimation: censored) However, the company and shop is still active. Their magazine "Toxic Sushi" is also published every 3 months. Nipponart also sub-licenced some titles to Anime on Demand and Crunchyroll for streaming, which includes Hellsing TV (nice 1080p upscale). Their distributor AV Visionen (owned by Crunchyroll) also issued some "pre-packs" of various titles, containing all 3 DVD/Blu-ray singles of a season (without the shop-exclusive storage box). What's going on? I don't know. But it could be some covid-related stuff, as the cancellation of Anime Japan and other industry events made it diffult to get in touch with Japanese companies regarding licencing - especially for smaller companies. It also seems that they decided to not release two licences: - Vatican Miracle Examiner - Akiba's Trip Well, the first is obvious - and the second? Without a dub anime doesn't sell in Germany - but for a title like this, even with a dub (~€ 60k) the distributor might end up losing money. (But no title ever will gain fewer sales than Infini T-Force) |

I could be wrong, but I want to say that the only titles of theirs which have translated credits are Sunrise titles (Tiger & Bunny/Accel World TV) which I assume were done by Sunrise themselves.

The talk of German BDs reminds me that KSM released the 13 episode series Orange on 3 discs with an average video bitrate of 10mbps: https://ninotaku.de/orange-bd-review/

Also similar to when Kazé released the second Bleach film, The Diamond Dust Rebellion, on a BD-25 with tons of audio and subtitle tracks at a shockingly pathetic 8.74 mbps for the video encode of a film with intense action sequences and lots of fast motion.

We're in for some terrible anime blu-rays? Hang on, here's a very solid one in the domain.
I'll review it someday. As to how it got that bad, it's apparently a mix between flawed materials & the BD author being clueless about his job (and loosing it quickly after ![]() EDIT: Regarding Orange, still probably better than the hardsubbed DVD-only french release. This ATAxCR deal was a terrible joke and a bloody mess. |

Wait, Kana does? I'm about to buy the Concrete Revolutio French Blu-ray released by Kana... I already knew that American Blu-ray by FUNimation has English telops. Now I may consider the German Blu-ray by KSM.
By the way, do you know how Dybex did on FLCL? Thanks! Last edited by Dino-Killer 912; 04-11-2021 at 05:47 AM. |

Apologies if this has been discussed at length, but is there a preferred/best release of Attack on Titan out there? I don't bother with Funimation discs any more but I'll make an exception if any aren't awful.
I've never seen it before aside from the first episode and I'd ask in the main thread but I don't want to spoil anything. |
