I saw the 4K UHD Disc of Yuru Camp Movie today. I watched a couple of chapters and switch between both versions of the movies instantly.
Using the Panasonic UB820 with Dolby Vision enabled on my Sony A90J OLED, the UHD Disc is definitely the superior version in every way. The HDR was very well tamed and stayed within the 100 nit range just like the Violet Evergarden Movie (JP version). However the Dolby Vision Dark mode is way too dark! How dark? Darker than my Plasma TV. Dolby Vision Bright mode looks the best, not too bright and not too dark. So no boosted contrasts or highlights or anything that looks unnatural. Unlike the Violet Evergarden Movie, this HDR presentation did not suffer from faded, low contrast, flat, or muted colors. It looks just as colorful as the standard BD version with a very minor contrast boost. This is by far the best HDR presentation I've seen so far in an anime movie. As for the upscaling, no edge enhancement, no DNR, or some weird post processing filters. The lines look sharper and cleaner. Any imperfections presented on the standard BD disc is all but gone. Just like the Violet Evergarden Movie, this is a fine upscale with an excellent encode. Overall, this is what anime on 4K HDR should look like. TOHO should take note on how it's done, and I hope they give us a proper Suzume 4K UHD release. |

Has anyone screenshots from Discoteks Kenichi Sets?
And do they feature creditless OP/ED? Does it have interlacing issues like the trailers posted by TMS? Last edited by TThomas; 05-05-2023 at 11:54 AM. |

I don't have shots, but I worked on them so I can answer your other questions.
Yes, they have the creditless OP/EDs on them, and the show itself is deinterlaced on our discs. Last edited by dubudavid; 05-05-2023 at 07:09 PM. |

No, Kenichi was 4:3 SD through its entire run. D.Gray-man, which started airing at the same time, lasted until 2008 and was 16:9 SD throughout. I'm not aware of any HD TMS productions around this time period.

I know for sure Detective Conan eps went widescreen around 2003 but wasn't native HD until June 2006 (the digipaint movies of this period were HD and widescreen). Toei upgraded One Piece to HD (960p) around the 2003-4 eps but weren't widescreen until around 2005.

Love Live! Superstar!! - Bandai Namco BD
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Like other Japanese Love Live! BDs authored by Sony PCL who did a good job with the video on this one. The BD uses the Crunchyroll English translation. Because NHK E had 2 day exclusivity, I watched the series with the Japanese Closed Captions track when it aired, so I wasn't familiar with the quality of the English subs. I took a quick glance at some scenes and songs, and imo the English subs seems a bit too literal/stiff. Some, but not all, of Tang Keke's Chinese lines are (incompletely) translated, when you're not supposed to understand her (unless you happen to speak Mandarin). In fact, the BD doesn't have Japanese subtitles and the lines were also not translated in the NHK E Closed Captions. Translator also seemed to have failed to notice the double meaning of "hareruya" in the song title "mirai yohou hareruya!" [Show spoiler] Not saying that the subs are bad, since they do seem to be serviceable, but they definitely could have been better. BDInfo Code:

Finally getting around to doing a post for K (Maquia one coming soon). Images taken with MPV.
First, some caps. There's a bit of banding, but there's quite a bit of aliasing too, and not just in the 3DCGI scenes where I'd expect. Would be interesting to see if the JPBD improves on that or not. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() As seems to be the usual with VIZ, (at least from what I've seen of theirs,) all episodes are encoded as one video on the discs. Plus, once again, there's no Signs/Songs track. But that's okay. While you're missing the music subs, the signs are taken care of, because for whatever reason, whatever signs they did bother subbing are burnt into the video. ![]() Another oddity is the opening scene of the first episode (after the title scene). It takes place in America, and the Japanese track has them speaking English. I guess when they released it, they hardcoded Japanese subs for the scene, and VIZ didn't get a clean master, because it remains on the disc. ![]() It also happens when they speak the occasional German. (yay, more burnt-in subs) ![]() The Japanese credits are swapped out for English ones, but I guess that's pretty common. ![]() ![]() |

A question about an older title: Is there any Western Blu-ray release of Sword of the Stranger that has closing credits in original Japanese? I bought the UK release only to learned that there was a version with all the text replaced with English.
