Some corrections/additions.

- The episodes are all in one playlist, however the files for the episodes are separate on disc.
- Much like their current discs, the encoding is trash. It doesn't take much movement for artifacts to be visible.
- Signs/Songs track - Viz never used to include them. The first BD I remember having them was Accel World Part 2 specifically.
- Back in the Neon Alley days, Viz used to replace OP/ED credits, and I assume this is also why the signs are hardsubbed as they were intended for "broadcast", however they have not done that for a very long time now.

For original credits, the Beez BD has them, and I assume the Italian BD release would also?
Thanks!
The Italian BD seems to be hard to get one now. By "even worse" do you mean the old Beez (I thought it was operated in Europe rather than US?) release also got badly encoded? Maybe I should go for the Japanese release.

I think all of the English releases are full of banding? All I remember is that I also purchased the Anime Limited BD of SoTS hoping for an upgrade, as the Beez BD left something to be desired, but ultimately ended up being worse than both the Beez and Funi BDs. I also believe the IT BD was the best release overall, but the best encode out there seems to be from the JP BD so I have no idea tbh.

This goes back to their older DVDs as well and IIRC, it stopped regularly with Ranma ½ HD and onwards so almost 10 years now.

Ah, got it. Guess I didn't check that.

Guess that's not a suprise, lol.

Looks like K just barely missed then. Then again, Death Note was from 2016, and those don't have Signs/Songs subs either, and it's pretty important for that show.

I see. Good to know it's not common.

Italian BD of SotS keep the japanese credits, it was left "as is" and it was debanded. Can't say anyway how it compares to the JP BD.

JP BD has worse banding artifacts than Bandai USA BD iirc. Sealed copies of Bandai USA BD are very cheap, but it doesn't have the Japanese credits. Also no Japanese subtitles for Chinese speaking parts, but that's not an issue for Dino-Killer 912.

My Beez BD has succumbed to disc-rot. Not a loss I mourn.

My post was about the translated opening & ending credits.

What happened with Death Note's lack of song/sign subs was beyond dumb since this was a problem on the DVDs as well up until Volume 7 when they started adding them.

Kind of surprised that Bandai USA and Beez used different video for their releases rather than sharing one encode, being part of the same company and all.

Beez also needed to produce discs for French and Spanish markets, so that's probably why they did their own encode.

Surprised to hear the JP BD has more banding. The Bandai Entertainment BD was authored by Sony DADC, now I wonder how their other work compared.

Sony DADC did Speed Racer for Funimation. Was pretty decent from what I remember.

Mixed that up then. Nice that VIZ doesn't have that issue anymore. I know FUNimation tends to have English credits, at least judging from what I have, and Sentai tends to keep the original.

Yeah, it's stupid. I made my own for both Death Note and K, and can share them if anyone wants them.

Yes, FUNimation really likes English credits, on contrary Sentai keeps original. I sold all my FUNimation copies which have English credits a couple of years ago, and replaced those titles with European or Japanese releases.

Before buying a FUNimation release, check out their website for the streaming version, there's a good chance they have the same credits.

By the way, anyone knows if Izetta: The Last Witch by FUNi and Death Note by Viz have original credits?

Wasn't the Beez blu-ray of Sword of the Stranger affected by Disc rot?

Regarding Megazone 23 by Animeigo, there were 2-disc limited releases, does that mean the single-disc release on Amazon was harshly encoded?

IIrc, what Animeigo used to do was to omit the lossless tracks of Bubblegum Crisis in order to cram all the episodes into one BD-50.

Quite the opposite.

The single disc retail release has a better video encode than the two disc Kickstarter release.
