Here's the actual difference if the current screencaptures we're given are to be believed, and I hope it's a mistake because the HDR is wrecking the highlights with lots of clipped detail.
BRO.

What you are seeing are the SDR caps tonemapped to 100 nits to be within an HDR container, so when viewed on a proper HDR display they look correct, but since you appear to not be watching on an HDR display, YouTube converted it back to SDR, and rather poorly, I might add (this is well known that YT's tonemapping sucks). In other words, because you aren't watching it on an HDR display (which is how the video was intended to be seen), you're incorrectly judging it yourself. The first paragraph is just plain wrong. I'm sorry, but it needs to be said.

The comparison video is correct when viewed on an HDR display. Prince is one of my best friends and is probably one of the only few people doing correct SDR vs HDR comps on YouTube, amongst a sea of people who have no clue what they're doing only for clicks. I managed to watch all of his comparisons early to help see if they are correct, and indeed they are when viewed as intended on an HDR display (TV, phone, monitor).

At least watch the video correctly before judging it and making such harsh accusations.

The video is encoded in HDR, you're supposed to watch it on an HDR display to get the intended results.
SDR caps are displayed at 100 nits diffuse white since it's the most agreed upon reference for SDR (High end TVs equipped with a Filmmaker mode will display SDR at this brightness level).

If you were to watch the video on an HDR display, you'll get accurate results. You are not because you're seeing the SDR tonemapped presentation and since the difference in brightness is so big between the SDR and HDR versions of the movie, the tonemapping performed by YouTube will render it as such.

I've said it at the beginning of the video, you NEED to see the video on an HDR display for the intended effect.

My bad, I was watching the video on my desktop computer.

So then the fellow who did the 80 other comparison caps had bad HDR to SDR conversion?

Are there any highlights being clipped in the actual product?

Mine should be arriving very soon but if that's the case that's very reassuring cause I thought this was going to be one more wreck of a UHD release.

From what I’ve heard, those comparison shots floating around aren’t an accurate representation of the HDR presentation. I could be wrong, but I think it was stated there was a bug to do with how they were capped. I don’t remember exactly.

Suzume is a very bright HDR presentation. Highlights clipping is due to tonemapping the image to SDR for desktop viewing. In the process of doing so, you always have to make compromises, which in turn can either lower the average brightness of the picture to preserve highlight details, or it can clip highlights to preserve the rest of the picture.

When viewing on an HDR display, highlights are simply brighter, not clipped, but depending on the capabilities of your HDR display, it can apply tonemapping to make up for a lack of brightness output, meaning that the highlights can indeed be clipped as a result depending on the tonemapping algorithm used by your TV.

This is less of an issue if the disc has Dolby Vision or HDR10+ support, which (to keep it simple), is supposed to offer better tonemapping than the one your display would do in HDR10 alone, but alas Suzume on the JP UHD does not offer a Dolby Vision or HDR10+ layer.

Thank you, so in principle no clipping. I run a Panasonic UB820 with the Optimizer setting to the closest corresponding setting which is OLED 1000 nits so generally things pan out very nicely in HDR10 but I understand what you mean.

In principle I believe Dolby Vision can still clip with less accurate tone mapping if it's left up to the player which was the case for a lot of older model DV compatible TV's prior to them changing them to be player led. Fortunately most high end TV's offer TV led DV now.

I never watched that anime but I did read the manga back when it started. Those Blu-ray corrections are a lot more in line with the character designs I'm used to. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but those boobs were not meant to be so big in the first place.

Yeah, the bluray looks more in line with the manga, especially Asaemon Sagiri.

Gurren Lagann Movies - 4K UHD (Aniplex)
SDR Tonemapped Screencaps:

very huge file sizes

Source (and for more screencaps):
https://twitter.com/schmullus1/statu...rCqjsUTlfggNyg

-

Also obtained the JP UHD BDMV for Lupin the III: The Castle of Cagliostro & the trailer included on there (& also assuming this goes for the US UHD as well) seems to look better than the actual movie (although still heavily DNR'd) so either they upscaled the Ghibli transfer for the movie or filtered it to the point of oblivion:

I don't have the DVDs to compare, but it seems they may have upscaled this from composite masters? No dot crawl or rainbows, but not a very good source. They also for whatever reason kept the "DVD Author" credit from the DVDs unlike Phoenix and Grenadier where they had a Blu-ray authoring credit (Blu-ray authoring by Justin Ramos). Also the "postcard" is printed on thin paper that is slightly too big to fit in the case because of the plastic tabs at the top and bottom, so it has slight wrinkles.

It impacted the episode, resulting in anything other than the voices to be "muffled/echoy" sounding. One of the streaming masters was affected by this as well, but I haven't checked to see if this was fixed at all.

I remember one thing is that when FUNimation updated the streaming masters for Yatterman Night to the home video release, the entire series was impacted by it and it made it unwatchable for me. It distracted me that enough to the point I didn't even want to risk getting the DVD subtitle only release.

That said, it's likely the result of them mixing the M&E and Language audio track together by accident and downmixing it as a stereo stream, resulting in how it sounds. I've seen this occasionally crop up on streaming masters, clips, and even on broadcast television at times.

Finally got around to watching the Blu-ray for Girl's High. I just finished it, including the bonus episodes.

The bad audio affects nearly everything that's not the dialogue throughout the whole show. The bonus episodes are unaffected, they sound much cleaner including the ED theme. Also I don't know if I need to readjust the connections on the cables for my setup again, but the dialogue sometimes is almost drowned out by the sound effects and background music. Easily the worst audio I've ever heard out of all the anime Blu-rays I've watched so far. It can be tolerable at times, but others, ugh.

BTW, the interview extras advertised on the back cover are not present. I asked, and Media Blasters stated they weren't allowed to port those over to the Blu-ray for whatever reason, so there's still reason to hang onto the DVDs. According to AniDB, there's 3 interviews that are 20 minutes each.

Sherlock Hound - JPN BD vs FRA BD vs USA BD vs USA BD dub

Comparison (note: comparison #14 has wrong screenshot for the dub. The correct screenshot is in the gallery)
Gallery

JPN BD has best picture quality, but the FRA and USA BDs look fine overall aside from the incorrect color space conversion of the English dub video. I suspect that FRA and USA BDs are re-encodes of JPN BD video.
