So it's just a question of the prefered packaging

IIRC Outlaw Star had a different encode compared to Funi?
Silver Spoon also had some issues, but as it's DVD-only and OOP in other English territories there is no better alternative...
I could be remembering wrong, but I feel like someone said MediaOCD repurposed the JP BD encodes for Outlaw Star for the UK BD.
Silver Spoon is in a bad situation as the first season has the gamma bug, whereas the second season has awful compression and crushed blacks.

There is a possibility i might find the fma (2003) collectors edition but i want to know if its an aniplex clone or at least of similar quality?
I found the Utena standard and CE bds 45% off (basically all the bds i listed have that discount thats why i want to buy them in bulk). Are they good, tho?
Going off of the other response about Utena being the same as Nozomi's Utena it should be excellent. The Nozomi release is great.

Nozomi Utena isn't a JP BD clone, but it is very well encoded, so no issues there (besides source ones with the restoration itself)

UK Outlaw Star is a JP BD clone (for the video encode), however.

Sing a bit of Harmony
German BD vs others
like many German Kazé / CR Blu-rays it has a Gamma bug, but especially Comparison 2 shows bad blocking

https://slow.pics/c/6SsCCtrA
Onimai German Blu-ray Peppermint Anime
better than Japanese Blu-ray, however as always peppermint burns in signs.

(not my comparisons)

Except for the Kizumonogatari movies, which other mvm releases for the monogatari franchise are aniplex clones?

If you're talking English friendly, then you're SoL I'm afraid. It's a Funimation disc everywhere.

Browsing through the All The Anime sale:

The UK Utena is a Nozomi port, what about Turn A Gundam?

Kaiba, if I remember is also a US port, Tatami Galaxy is missing the OVA compared to the US, which has other issues.

As far as I can tell Tamako is Sentai port (any good?) and I found Eureka Seven reviews here. Given the price, can't complain, same for Black Lagoon, if it wasn't sold out.

How bad is Wolf's Rain? I'm guessing it's a Funi port.

I saw Space Dandy comparisons, but anyone with better eyes than me, has a final verdict how the US and UK releases compare?

Turn A Gundam is definitely a Nozomi port, as I own that one.

Kaiba is a clone (otherwise it would be on 2 discs). Tatami Galaxy is 1080p as opposed to the US release being 1080i for some reason.

Black Lagoon is a clone, not sure about the others.

For Wolf's Rain, you should be able to find comparisons of the Funi release on here. The UK discs are almost certainly clones due to the number of episodes each disc (9/9/9/3).

IIRC Space Dandy had slightly better compression on the US release despite a lower bitrate.

For Space Dandy, the US is better than the UK release. The later has more pronounced banding.

Wolf's Rain is originally a FUNi upscale, I don't think the UK release would be much better.

The french Tatami Galaxy release is just 10 bucks, you should import that and remux it with english subtitles.

Looks like Classroom of the Elite S2 is botched. I'm suspecting they laid off the Blu-ray Quality Control department.

I can't even with this Crunchy quality control...

Though then again, this got through QC on Date A Live III.

I can confirm this; it's the last few minutes of episode 5; a number of lines aren't subtitled. Note that it's not ALL lines in that time frame. You might have 3 character's lines in a conversation not subtitled, then a few more are subbed, then a couple more aren't. So basically, the subtitles go in and out in that few minute section. There were enough subs that I could basically follow what was going on; some of the missing lines took place during the combat climax, and weren't so much plot oriented as "I'll cover you while you do x" or "look out while I do this" type things, IIRC. There were at least a couple times where the dialogue was more important, though.

I've also watched through the entire set, and I can confirm that this does not happen at any other point with any other episode; it's just the last part of episode 5 that's affected.
Finally checked my copy I got 3 months ago (should have done it sooner), I can further confirm it, and took a video of the problem. I picked a random spot shortly after Shido drew the sword and yep...
https://twitter.com/BigOnAnime/statu...47687424471040

The DVD also has a problem with the subtitles, but it's not as bad. The DVD doesn't have the song lyrics pop up despite being partially present on the Blu-ray. I didn't check more, but it wouldn't surprise me if that remained the DVD's only problem for the rest of the episode.

Sentai's BD of Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken! has the first second (24 frames) of some episodes cut by accident.

Whelp, though that would be harder to notice. Hopefully as they get through this, that's the only issue that CR release has.

With how Crunchyroll releases have changed how credits have been handled for the worst (lots of missing and inaccurate info) and they now leave the JP credits alone, a friend suspected they laid off a bunch of people (namely many listed here). With how Jonathan Castleman got let go this year, wouldn't surprise me if the people credited for "Blu-ray Quality Control" when Crunchyroll releases still had end of disc credits also got let go, helping lead to this.

Since the big "merger" shittyroll/crapamation has been going downhill super fast, if it costs money to make something right-we're sol! Say what you want about Sentai but they still care about what they release and try harder to get it right the first time.
