Well, that figures. I assume the streaming version did (I don't actually recall)? If so, I wonder what the odds are of corrected discs and a replacement program. Probably somewhere between 0 and lol.

It did yeah. I doubt they will fix them unless someone important notices but I sent a feedback email anyways

Does anyone know if there were any Blu-ray corrections?

Iron Blooded Orphans did and we didn't get that here.

EDIT:

Looks like Funiroll got the Blu-ray masters thank goodness.

Oh gawd... And if those get reviewed here... "The English subtitles are well done and free from egregious spelling or grammatical errors."

As if those are the only things that matter when it comes to subtitle quality.
https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...5#post22056845

Modern anime tend to feature way more on-screen text, so typesetting has gotten more important over time, and yet for a show to be completely missing it...

Side-note, I just watched Gakuen Utopia Manabi Straight! episodes 2-3 on the Blu-ray last night, and that had some neat typesetting for that time period for a Discotek Media release (basically late 2000s/early 2010s fansub typesetting), and it would have been way worse if it had the FUNimation standard of signs on top with no positioning. One scene had text on a board with the subs scattered about, which stayed there while there was some sakuga (if only people knew what ufotable was doing before Garden of Sinners, Fate, and Demon Slayer...). If there were no sign subs at all, much of the context of certain scenes would have been completely lost, and that's for a show from 2007.

Yeah, there's only one subtitle track on the discs (subs for Japanese audio). Although IIRC most of the onscreen text in the show is actually English, albeit the font choice on some of the text is atrocious.

Mazinger Z

JPDVD vs. JP/USBD: https://slow.pics/c/I3L6yXcH

The HD scan cooks the old DVD without a doubt. DVD is chock full of aliasing and other junk

Bitrate for EP01:

Great remaster, which IMHO is being held back by a subpar encode that prevents it from looking as nice as it could be

Still absolutely destroys the DVD

I assume all grain has been removed like Mazinger Z, but looks pretty good otherwise.

edit: also seeing a bit of aliasing, hopefully that's from the encode and not on the master.

Is there a specific comp/shot you see that in? I saw plenty in the old DVD telecine but not really in the new BD

That encode is so bad, christ. There's banding (in a grainy show), blocking, stripes, aliasing, video noise, bad white balance, and other various defects that could have been avoided if Toei had competent technical staff. You are being polite by claiming it is subpar, it sucks. The aliasing comes from the terrible encode, or some butchering of the chroma planes when exporting to 4:2:0.

Stray uniform macroblocks
Blocky clouds and sky, with banding
Blown out whites
I see they were also not bothered to clean-up reel defects. I could have lived with that, but not with the rest.

Yeah, whoever did the encode absolutely shit the bed, laid an egg, choked it, what have you

Really unfortunate as the underlying remastering work to me looks really well done; like 90% of the shots I've watched so far have great color
I'm not surprised not as much film defects were cleaned up considering this was likely done in a time crunch to release alongside Legacy

The dream would be for Discotek to bring it over and do a much better encode but I'm pretty doubtful that'll ever happen unfortunately

It might've been slow.pics, looks like it doesn't show the image at 1:1 pixels on my screen for some reason. But I think I can still see some minor stairstepping in the diagonal lines, like on the 2nd and 3rd pics. That might be due to the encode, though.

idr if hikaruon suffered from the same encode defects so it'd be a shame to see Toei Video falling off with their remastered BDs

Suffice to say I'm incredibly disappointed.

It did not

Midnight Eye Goku JPBD also wasn't a perfect encode but it wasn't anywhere near as bad as this

The french release of Fate Stay Night Heaven's Feel - Presage flower by All The Anime is another victim of Com'On Screen. Incorrect gamma and absolutely disgracious encode with macroblocks and overall a loss of detail.

I prefer to blame solely the post-production house as mistakes happen, but this has been going on for years. And "El Presidente" is evidently well aware, but does not give a flying ****, people are simping for his defective products, why would he care?

"Preferred authoring house"
I guess he hates the frogs, or that less prestigious series (FSN?) can rightfully get garbage releases.

It looks too clean to my eyes. Would it be silly to say that adding some form of artificial grain would make it look better?

Got my Kite disc in today from Amazon and took some caps for you all. (nothing forum unfriendly, none to fear!) Generally looks very nice, aside from a lil gumminess I'm not too fond of but it's not view ruining to me.

[Show spoiler]

Someone posted numerous All the Anime titles authored by Com'On Screen on slowpics.

Love Live Super Star!! (S1)
Fireworks
Sing a bit of Harmony
Fate Stay Night Heaven's Feel II - Lost Butterfly

Bright scenes and surfaces looks acceptable, but the whole thing goes to hell anytime there are dark textures. Banding varies to absolutely horrible (Love Live) to bearable. And their encoder just can't handle any type of grain, even at 30-35 Mbps.
