There's only a difference in gamma on the luma channel:

(By the way, both FUNi's Psycho Pass and AL's Cowboy Bebop were encoded using the same encoder)

If still interested, had a quick look at the P4 DVD PQ courtesy of Sentai's limited edition boxset. While the Blu-ray is an obvious improvement (better compression, resolution and less banding), the DVD overall seems to upscale decently enough.

I screencapped a few comparisons.

01 - P4 DVD | P4 BD

02 - P4 DVD | P4 BD

03 - P4 DVD | P4 BD

04 - P4 DVD | P4 BD

05 - P4 DVD | P4 BD

The DVD screencaps were taken at native 480p then bicubic upscaled to 1080p.

Can anyone get us some info on the Infinite Stratos 2 Blu-ray release? My friend told me it's one BD50 (with 28GB used ) and two BD25s.

Thank you so much! This was very helpful, I feel better about being able to make a more educated choice for this purchase.

Would share info but don't own it. That's terrible though, they might as well have just used three BD25s and called it a day.

Sounds like a huge letdown. I've currently cancelled my plans to order it when my MasterCard turns just before release.

It's not related to video quality, but I'd like to note that NISA made a little mistake when they mastered the first disc of Nyaruko

Wanted to share a few more comparisons of the massive improvements found in the Sentai Selects 2016 release of Children Who Chase Lost Voices over the initial 2012 version - namely corrected brightness, improved compression, reduced banding, and elimination of horizontal line glitches.

01 - 2012 | 2016

02 - 2012 | 2016

03 - 2012 | 2016

04 - 2012 | 2016

As for the amount of data, the 2012 release was given around 15.5gb of data for its video alone and the 2016 release increased that to around 27gb. A nearly 12gb bump in video data, excellent work. I no longer have access to the crappy 2012 disc but here's a look at the excellent 2016 one -

That's a definite doubledip then. Good thing I only watched it once.

I meant to do a post about this months ago but I never got around to it. Pretty much as you said - massive improvement over the old release. I did spot a few (and I mean few) instances of weird compression in far shots and I noticed they actually fixed the glitched frame from the 2012 release. BDInfo's for both discs can be found below. Have been sitting on them since 14th November...

Good stuff and no worries, your previous post mentioning the improvements was what got me to double dip on it. I actually didn't enjoy the movie that much but just enough so that the video nerd in me had to see it again for the improved picture quality. Got it for dirt cheap at least.

I don't believe that BigOnAnime ever got the chance to share hissatsu's comparison for Record of Lodoss War, so I decided to go ahead and quote it:

[Show spoiler]

I distinctly remember than even in multi-generation VHS fansub copies from the early nineties, you could still easily see that the OP looked much worse for several episodes after the first (See episode 2 screenshots for 3-5). Several episodes looked rather "muddy" at best. But no matter how many different releases it got (Original VHS and LD, LD box, DVD box and singles) it never got a new telecine. None of the releases look particularly good - no component masters ever. And as for CPM's "remaster" - No, just no. Well, it took more than 20 years, but it finally got what it needed.

This release looks excellent. Massive improvements in detail, color, everything. Film grain has probably undergone some reduction, but it appears to have been done with a light touch - no signs of clumping and the grain is still quite visible. Other than more exorbitant than usual Kadokawa pricing, I have no complaints. The 195 page color book is nicer than what's usually included as well.

DVD screenshots are from the R2J DVD box from some years back (which I'll be keeping for the soundtrack CDs).

Has anyone seen Gundam Thunderbolt in 1080P and 4K?
If so, is there a big difference?

I had a friend look at his God Eater vol. 2, and it's as we figured: Made in the USA. The encode seems to be a typical US one with about 4.5GB per episode.

I don't think this has been covered anywhere in the anime subsection, so I figured I should chime in.

Definitely not spending AoA money on this one

Was God Eater vol 1 the same? Also I would hate to see that become the norm for Aniplex lol

God Eater is special because it's not an Aniplex show. We knew a long time ago that this would likely happen. There's no real reason to fear that this will happen for other shows.

I just pulled the episodes off my God Eater 2 set and they are about 6GB each. Some of the episodes are split between 2 m2ts files so they may look smaller.
