Alright, decided to make a few comparisons for Hyouka. I don't have access to the JPN discs, so I've taken a few screenshots that were uploaded here to compare them to. They're 1080p PNGs, so I'm assuming they're raw screenshots without any added compression. I've also never done this before, so I'm assuming that opening the .m2ts video files on the disc in MPC-HC with the default video renderer and taking screenshots that way will suffice.
For some reason, trying to add all of these at once to a single screenshotcomparison.com post doesn't work. Maybe it was timing out because my upload speed sucks. http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/217220 http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/217221 http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/217222 http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/217225 http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/217224 EDIT: I done goofed, my captures have incorrect colours. The first and last comparisons look especially ugly. Ugh. I seriously hope that's a capture error.
It's been quite a while since Funi screwed up like this. |

Alright, I got proper screenshot comparisons using Sensuifu's Part 1 Screenshot Gallery as the source for the Funi BD and my own JP BD Discs. http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/217236 http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/217237 http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/217238 http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/217239 Well, looks like Funi's release is very good. The JP version is a shade brighter this time while the Funi's release has more compression with a shade darker than the JP release. |

I could just be that the screenshots were not taken from the same player, and if I only had the Funi Discs at my disposal to confirm whether or not there was a changed in brightness.
This is still one of the best I've seen from Funi, but it has its problems. |

The issues with Hyouka look extremely minor from what I'm seeing. Nowhere near enough to deter a purchase, imo. Your mileage may vary, however.
Might grab it on sale, since Funimation likes doing that to their releases after a few months, it seems. |

So it looks like I prematurely jumped the gun a bit asking Funi for a replacement Sword of the Stranger disc. It looks like both my replacement and original copy have fixed subs so they must have fixed later copies sent to retailers. My cheap copy of Code Geass still had the original audio issue so I figured it was something they wouldn't fix unless you asked for it. Good news for anyone looking to buy the movie and didn't want to hunt down an old Bandai copy.

Yeah, I would have bought it too, but I didn't regret getting the JP release back before Funi made any announcements.

Any chance someone can provide a BDInfo scan of the first two episodes of ERASED from Aniplex's release?
We may have received the same encodes on the UK/AU release. Dual 24bit PCM Audio, no brightness problems and high bitrates. Episode 1 is smaller than the rest of the episodes by a bit, but filesizes look pretty healthy otherwise considering files are 1m 20s shorter than usual. Episode 1 Episode 2 |
