Ninja Scroll: Sentai vs Manga UK (Sentai screenshots from caps-a-holic)
Note: Comparison #3 frames are not the same, but I don't feel like redoing it. Manga UK seems to be slightly better. |

Since TBATB's initial standard BD was released on the same day as the first Hosoda Collection re-release (TGWLTT) in mid-2016, my bet is that Funi intentionally gimped the on-disc extras of the former (which was pathetically bare-bones in comparison to Funi's other standard editions for the previous Hosada films) in order to capitalize on the inevitable re-release that eventually came out one year later in mid-2017. As an update to the Wizard of Oz Discotek SD Blu. Its quite soft looking, thats got to be inherent to the source though. If they ever do the JP release, I imagine it will look a bit nicer.

Well, I'd imagine they're working with older dub tape masters. Probably the best the dub is gonna look, to be honest.

I only vaguely remember watching it as a kid. Reading about it and watching a bit though, it seems like a pretty good adaptation of a few of the Oz books.
This release is English only as it was cut/adapted a bit in comparison to the original JP. I dunno how much it differs, it's not too badly changed though I think. Discotek have a few of the JP eps on their YouTube channel though. |

I've always liked Panda Go Panda (It's just a nice, cute, relaxing couple of short films) and have been eyeing the Blu-ray since it was announced. Looks extremely nice.

Your Name Hong Kong Blu-ray
I took 2 screenshots from Sensuifu's JP Blu-ray screenshot gallery and compared them to the HK Blu-ray: http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/119735/ The HK Blu-ray looks a tiny bit darker and there's some barely visible blocking in the first HK screenshot. I'm not sure if the first JP screenshot was taken correctly. There's something really strange going on with the light in the JP screenshot and there's a long black vertical line on the left side. (EDIT: Checked a rip, first JP screenshot was not taken correctly. ) Will post more screenshots tomorrow. Code:

More screenshot comparisons:
Set 1 (first JP screenshot has wrong colors) Set 2 There are some compression artifacts in high motion scenes, such as #5 in the second set of screenshots, but I didn't notice it while watching and neither did I notice banding. Last edited by NLScavenger; 10-07-2017 at 02:10 PM. |

Your Name Taiwanese Blu-ray (34998 kbps 24fps). Despite having a higher bitrate than the JP release, the encode is not very good:
![]() (source: gamer.com.tw forum) A few other shots can be found in that thread and here: http://screenshotcomparison.com/comp....php?id=119648 http://screenshotcomparison.com/comp....php?id=119649 http://screenshotcomparison.com/comp....php?id=119647 Encoded at a constant bitrate, which isn't as efficient as CRF (constant rate factor). Hong Kong release was also encoded at a constant bitrate. Just like the HK release, the color saturation on TW is also slightly different compared to the JP release. I wonder what's causing it. The audio got downgraded to 16-bit and to make matters worse there are audio sync problems. |

Does anyone have the HK release for The Place Promised in Our Early Days? I'm wondering how the quality is for that BD.
