Besides, as you said, the original theatrical mono tracks are very important. Fans should pay twenty more bucks for FR release, since UK release is out of stock. Last edited by Dino-Killer 912; 03-08-2018 at 03:27 PM. |

Not sure if it's visible on the other versions like the French or UK releases, but I own the US BD for the Mobile Suit Gundam Movie Trilogy, and I'm pretty certain that the version of the films we got, on top of being from a different master as noted above, suffers from an inconsistent level of DVNR or grain reduction. I say inconsistent largely because while still shots are often pretty clean of grain, shots with faster panning or a significant amount of action have an obvious grain field.
Using the official site review, it's most noticeable in this action shot from Soldiers of Sorrow. https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/scree...395&position=4 |

Could there be a color conversion issue on your end? Quote:
It can get weird sometimes. The Guncannon launch shot in Movie 3 (5:13-5:15) starts out with no grain, but then a few frames later in the same shot the grain returned. |

So, I was looking at Amazon UK through upcoming anime releases, and saw KAZE's JoJo release. I saw it had two cases, so I was intrigued. I saw this:
![]() Yes, your eyes do not deceive you. Phantom Blood, which is 9 Episodes, is all on a single disc. But it gets even better: Disc 2 has FOUR episodes, and has THIRTEEN Episodes on Disc 3! Not even FUNimation would do that, and we all know how their work is. So yeah. If the max out the bitrate on disc 2, nice. But that leaves no excuse for poor disc management- even with 3 discs, they could have 9 on the next, and 8 on the last. But no, this is Kaze... (I know I this really isn't stats or screencaps, but it's apparent that it's gonna be a bad release, so just go with Viz's nicer 4-disc set) EDIT: Wait... So I re-read the description, and it's Manga Entertainment doing the release? Yet, both the listing and their own website show Kaze's release... so, they outsourced it to KAZE, who already did the French release, which was also on 3 discs... and on the website it's not listed for having the English dub, despite Viz including it... this is so weird... It is a Kazé release distributed by Manga UK. Manga UK has always handled the UK distribution for Kazé. I have pre-ordered this ugly set. Could have gone for the Viz release, but I'm really curious about the picture quality. If the PQ is decent and doesn't have the color problems of the Viz release, I'll stick with Kazé for JoJo. |

Persona3 The Movie - #1 Spring of Birth - UK BD Screenshots
Apart from some barely noticeable banding in dark colors here and there (examples: 1|2), this looks good IMO. Code:

Now I know there isn't suppose to be any difference relating to quality (i think at least) but I recently installed a Blu Ray drive in my PC and noticed the quality is a bit worse than on my Samsung TV using a standard Blu Ray Player. A rather old one at that. I have a ASUS VG248QE monitor as well. As there isn't much difference but I noticed the picture being slightly more grainy and not as clear when playing the DBZ Blu Ray discs. Anyone know any idea why or have any suggestions?

Obviously one of the two device is enhancing contrast, brightness, or color saturation or applying some type of filtering that causes it to look different than the other. You'll have to review your TV's picture settings for the input your blu-ray player uses, settings on the BD player itself, and the preferences on the computer blu-ray player software to find the reason. What software are you using on the PC? |

I have also used two different players and didn't see a difference. I'm using PowerDVD 17. Note that it's the trial version so maybe that's it? I have also used the Leawo Player. I messed a little with the contrast, brightness etc but still has a grainy texture where compared to using the player on my TV it's just overall a lot more clear for some reason. I sound like a baby because it's not THAT big of a difference but it's quite noticeable lol.

I messed with it a little after I noticed it was a bit grainy and then restored to the defaults. I saw that under the trial version of PowerDVD 17 it doesn't offer Ultra HD Blu Ray playback.. Not sure if that'd be my issue. I was looking into Corel's software but it didn't get good feedback. This was only on 12 though.

Bought my first funimation anime blu-ray release - Super Lovers.
Subs are locked, which ruined the experience cuz I want to rewatch it without subs sometimes, but I guess this is just to prevent Japanese from reverse-importing. ![]() Bitrate seems to be around 27-29Mbps on average. Not sure if that is considered high or not since I don't have a Japanese release. |

cool! good to know. It is actually much better than expected because Japanese release is 2 episodes per disk and Funimation is 8 episodes on the first disk and 3 episodes + extra on the 2nd disk. If it is only 5-10Mbps difference that's actually quite acceptable. I just wish the subs can be turned off when I want to practice listening Japanese without subs.

Kyousougiga arrived today, so I'm gonna be posting my write-up on it tomorrow, but before I figure out a way to manage screenshots (for my Koe no Katachi write-up I used Google Drive, so I may try something else if people want that), I'll just give some interesting information.
It's 1080i at a constant 29.97fps; Bitrate is 25Mbps, and picture quality is sub-par, perhaps due to the frame rate. I'll cover it in depth tomorrow, but hopefully this is enough to hold people over until then. |

Also there is no English dub in this funimation release which helps with the bitrate. I'm surprised Funimation has improved that much as they used to be screwing up most of my favourite anime but that was in the 90s ![]() |
