Remember how all of Funimation's streams were done at the wrong colour range and suffered horrible black crush until 2016?
Remember how we were lucky enough never to have that transfer over to home video? Well... Assassination Classroom Season 2 Part 1 has you covered...

JP BD - 1 - 2 - 3
Funi BD 1 - 2 - 3

This has to be a sick joke... it's really THAT different? (sarcasm)

In the past, when FUNi would lower the brightness of a title, to me, it didn't seem like much of an issue... most of the time, it was subtle, and while wrong, didn't seem that bad...

Look at Screenshot 2. Where has the building gone?, It's disappeared!

How they thought this was acceptable is beyond me... Hopefully it's just this nighttime scene... (though I know it's probably the whole episode)

Anyone have some impressions on the Gundam Unicorn release from Nozomi? Just wonder how it fared on 4 discs vs the original Japanese with one episode per disc.

The forum post below someone pointed out there being video issues such as banding and noise distortions prevalent in all the episodes. It's also eluded to in the bluray review of Unicorn by Jeffrey as well. Apparently still a decent release though it's still disappointing to hear, I'm hoping AL version avoid's most of these issues if released in the UK.

Crushed blacks. Crushed blacks everywhere. Some of the worst I've seen, in fact.

Way to further throw quality control out the window there, Funimation. I feel bad for any Assassination Classroom fans who bothered to pick this up.

Thus far, I've only noticed this problem twice in episode 3 and once in episode 6.

Suddenly, I don’t feel like it’s so urgent that I get the second season of AssClass.

This is the Anime Limited release I'm looking at. Went through a bunch of the episodes (not all as I haven't seen the second series and am already treading a fine line spoiler wise), and out of 18 episodes, only 5 appear to have been done correctly (Excluding the OP/ED sequences as Funi encode one sequence and splice them into each episode). The correct ones are episodes 10, 14, 15, 17 and 18.

Episode 14 - JP - Funi
Episode 15 (OP) - JP - Funi
Episode 16 - JP - Funi

So it turns out the Opening for episode 15 is the only one to feature a replaced English credits sequence. As such, the opening for the other episodes are the original unedited Japanese OP which aren't buggered.

That last comparison makes me so disappointed. I'm kinda glad I never picked up Season 2 now, but at the same time I don't like having only half of the series.

I was going to wait to see if they would ever put out an 8-disc set of the whole season, but I can't imagine them making a new encode for a set like that.

Funimation, to my knowledge, never reauthors discs for full series rereleases. Which is useful in the case of some shows that actually have consistently good encodes, but for series like this, it's just perpetuating a problem.

The only time I can recall where Funi reauthored discs was for the FMA Brotherhood "Complete Collection" sets. The series had 5 part sets so they had to change the episodes per disc to make it even between both sets.

But, the video quality is exactly the same. Reauthored, yes. Re-encoded, nope.
(I’m agreeing with you, not arguing- just elaborating)

What about Samurai Champloo and the differences between the original and later Anime Classics version?

First one has DNR to remove the grain, second one doesn't.

Thanks, forgot about it.

You should always assume that these releases just use the same encode.
