Link to my config https://drive.google.com/file/d/1UXu...ew?usp=sharing
Just unzip to your mpv folder and change the necessary paths in the mpv.conf file. You activate debanding with the 'h' key. If you want higher debanding strength then increase the iteration steps in the conf. Page up/down to jump between chapters. Last edited by Robbl; 06-05-2018 at 07:09 AM. |

The
Disc size: 25.73GB (more on why that's an issue later) The Film 21GB Video: 1080p MPEG-4 AVC 26.0 mbps AVG 32.0 mbps MAX 15.4GB Audio: (in order of listings) English LPCM Stereo 16-Bit 1536 kbps Japanese LPCM 5.1 16-Bit 4608 kbps Japanese LPCM Stereo 16-Bit 1536 kbps Commentary Track (with Ikuhara) Stereo 16-Bit 1536 kbps Okay... there's technically nothing "wrong" with the audio, but it could be better. All of the audio is incorrectly labeled as "English" (the dub track is the only one which should have that label), I have two issues: 1. There is no English 5.1 track. I don't care one bit about dubs, but a 5.1 mix exists in English so why it wasn't included baffles me. Being on a BD-50, there is no reason it couldn't have been included. 2. Ikuhara's commentary, while nice, is lossless, which isn't bad, but when the video bitrate is compressed down because the commentary track takes up a lot of space, it's an issue. It could've been Dolby Digital and wouldn't make much of a difference. If it were DD, it could've fit on a BD-25. Now, the video. It's not bad, but it could be better. First off, the bitrate. It's lower than the series. Being on a BD-50 and taking up barely 25GB of content, there is no reason it should be this low. Lazy. The famous opening shot, with Shichiro Kobayashi's distinctive background artwork, the fast panning shot.. it's rather soft with some noticeable aliasing. The rest fares much better, but it has quite a bit of what is suspect is Telecine wobble. It's not too distracting, but it is noticeable. I'm assuming this is a source related issue, not a compression/encoding one. It's less sharp and refined than the series, but it's satisfying and better than the DVD. Certainly the low point of the Utena set. |

So, the main issue with the Utena set is disc file size management.
Each Episode is 6.5GB, and there are 4 Episodes per disc, which is about 28GB per disc. I feel it’s a waste of space, and the disc art isn’t that good to compensate. So, you could have an even 6-6 split with the same files, and not much would change. The price of the set (and individual volumes) would probably lower a little. The movie is the big issue. I suspect it was originally going to be on a BD-25, but the extras took up a bit more than 24.9GB in total (which is the max size you could put on the disc), so it was put on a 50GB disc. It’s ironic that Gundam The Origin, which has Episodes about the same length, has 4 lossless tracks (LPCM 5.1 and Stereo in both Japanese and English), plus has a higher Bitrate despite being on a 25GB disc. The only difference is the extras. The exclusion of an English 5.1 track is strange. Again, I don’t care about the dub whatsoever, but it exists in 5.1, and I assumed it would be in surround here. But it isn’t. The exclusion could be said to save file size on a 25GB disc, but on a 50GB disc, there is enough room to have it and up the video Bitrate. The Utena set is pretty amazing. Beautiful packaging, and the series looks stunning. The movie was mishandled, but it could be due to a time constraint. All in all, you do get your money’s worth. MVM has the movie in the UK, and while I’m confident they’ll use Nozomi’s encode, if they did make their own, it could end up being better. |

Seeing some people getting their Fist of the North Star: The Movie BDs in the mail. Curious as to how it looks. It's evidently based on the same HD master used for the DVD so with the exception of the usual censored sequences, I'm expecting it to look pretty good.

As for the episodes, they appear to be the same or an equal encode. |

Got my Lupin III Part 4 from @Anime LTD today :
Not the best release in terms of video quality. 4 BD for 26 episodes, the first 12 are spread across 2 single layer (25GO) BD's and the last 14 episodes are spread across 2 double layers (50GO) BD's. The size varies between 2.8Go and ~4.5 GO per episode. ![]() ![]() Here's 2 mediainfo one for the first disc (25GO BD), and one for the last (50GO BD) [Show spoiler] [Show spoiler] Screenshots from the first episode : http://imgbox.com/g/OhfMftAOZz Quite a lot of banding unfortunatly.
