That's where the problem lies, whichever format someone buys there will be disappointment.

Are you serious? Toshiba just alienated all ce's. This is their last chance. When toshiba finds out that their cheap players did nothing to spur software sales they will throw in the towel and warner will turn blu.

So would you say the same about the PS3. Hmm, my guess is that you will not. Do you know how much Sony dumps on every PS3 sold?? Even with that, 2 price cuts in the 1st year, HUGE loses. It is what you do to compete. So based on that, would you say the PS3 is getting it's ass kicked and it's more aggressive pricing is just desperation?? But all this is just good for the consumer. I finaly plan on getting the $399 PS3 this XMAS..

Yes, the PS3 is getting it's ass kicked as a game console.

The difference is console wars are not something which requires a single unified winner.

Oh another PhD joining us in this discussion? So, PhD, what have they done, raise their player prices?, kept their title prices high? and haven't placed any pressure on Fox to lower theirs? Blu-ray players always have been, and always will be more exensive than that half-assed format's players.

And it hasn't mattered one bit. Blu-ray has consistently kicked ass ever since the PS3 launched.

As HD has dropped prices Blu has responded as best they could.

There is *no* magic price point at which consumers buy into HD at volumes that will save HD. This mythical magic price point falls right behind Sasquatch on the Shi* That Don't Exist list.

Um... in case you weren't paying attention, these players were not actually for sale previously at $198at WM. The HD-A2 came into stores at that price but a POS sales restriction was put in place, barring them from being sold. WM along with CC only confirmed earlier this week that they were carrying them and that AT THAT TIME they were sub-$200. They have yet to actually sell any at that price.

Sony choose a longer term strategy. Newer games require more disk space and DvD wasn't going to provide it. So they threw in a Blu Ray player for future capability. They might have had a short term loss, but in the long run it was better.

Agreed. 1080i is not junk. Most people here couldn't tell the difference between 1080i and 1080p if both were in front of them.
