Default $99 HD-A2 Will Be A Non-Event

I went to Best Buy this morning after seeing the $99 price on their website. I told the girl working in the electronics section that I was looking for an HD-A2. She responds: "Do you know that the A2 is last year's model, and that it doesn't do 1080p?". I still asked if they have any, and she checked inventory on their computer system. Zero in the Mission Valley store, 1 in Mira Mesa, and 1 in Chula Vista. That's it for all of San Diego. The $99 may look exciting, but I really doubt it will drive huge player sales, or software sales, for HD DVD. At this Best Buy, I bet someone would leave with a PS3 or Samsung BD player.

It may be a non-event at Best Buy, but Wal-mart will be an entirely different story. Wal-mart actually has stock of these in probably every store.

Default Why did Warner let their BDA membership lapse?

I keep hearing how Warner is going to go blu, after all the sales for Warner movies are like 4:1 blu.

But then why would they not renew their membership in the BDA? Their contract, like many other companies, expired last night, Oct. 31st. However, unlike the other companies, Warner decided not to renew their membership. This is not something a company with an army of lawyers just forgets to do.

It is a good thing the employee basically asked "do you know why this thing is so damn cheap?"

If I thought HD DVD had a chance, I'd buy a player at that price and start filling in missing titles. Does that make me neutral?

I do think a lot of people will buy them thinking that that an HD player will play any optical HD media. Are they gonna be pissed at the retailer or the studios or the manufacturer? Gosh I have no clue but I won't be that customer.

I'm sure it's a non-event. Why would they switch to HD-DVD when there are millions of BD players in homes.
