I admire Jobs, but there's no secret why he dislikes Blu-Ray so much - you don't have control over content and pricing when someone can physically hold a movie in their hands.

Why do you think you can no longer watch TV over the air? Oh sure, they feed you the line that digital cable is so much better, but the real reason is they can't charge you a monthly fee if you're getting your shows with rabbit ears.

Frankly I wouldn't be surprised if soon that they announce they need the radio spectrum for other applications, but hey you can get Satellite radio which offers much better quality instead.

What a lame excuse, I can imagine the majority of Apple fans wants Blu-ray drives, or am I wrong?
Always a bad business to not listen to customers...

Hate to break it to you but you can still watch TV over the air. And it's even free.

I'd love to have blu on my Mac, but even at this point it wouldn't work between its graphics card and its monitor (and both are current models). Can't even watch HD iTunes movies on it, have to watch SD. That's my MacGripe.

What was the point of the link exactly? As long as you have a TV with a digital tuner or took advantage of the coupon that was offered for the set-top box you can still watch TV for free like the previous poster stated

I said you can't get TV over the air anymore. Not sure what part of that isn't clear.

Either reading comprehension is not one of your strong suits or you didn't actually read the article at all. Take a look at the second paragraph or the second section titled "Upgrading the rabbit ears"

I assure you people are still receiving OTA signals

+1! I'm holding off upgrading my iMac until BD is added also. I don't see how they can claim to be a Blu-ray Supporter( http://www.blu-raydisc.com/bluray_site.htm), while they haven't done much for it.

Maybe the Blu-ray Disc Association should put some pressure on Apple or revoke its membership.

I agree. It seems like a logical step in the progression of their product, although there are some out there that will pay through the nose for a product minus blu-ray capability then do it again 3 days later is it's added, lol.

im not really that savvy on the tech, but i dont understand why he says blu ray software is a mess, it there any credibility to that statement, or does he just hate it so much that hes making it up to justify his decision?

I respect Jobs for his inventiveness and Apple's success, but on this topic, he couldn't be more wrong.

a bit off topic but: To Steve Jobs:
I looked very hard at a 27 inch IMAC with core i7 processor with 8 GB ram and Microsoft office for a cost of $2734.87. Your design is very sleek looking but:

I would like to have a second internal hard drive so I could store all my music on it but no it’s not offered. I suppose I could partition the drive and do it that way but id rather not.
I would like to connect my portable hard drive to it with E-sata but apple doesn’t offer it. I could get an adaptor or buy a different drive with fire wire at additional cost.
I would like to connect all 5 of my peripherals but wait only 4 USB ports, I have to get a USB hub and connect it at additional cost.
After all the adaptors and stuff are connected it stops being so sleek.
I would like native blu ray support with possibly a blu ray burner but apple doesn’t support it.
I understand you can connect a macbook laptop to it via mini display port and use it as an external monitor. But you can’t do the same with a pc.
How about an external HDMI in so you can plug a blu ray player in it and watch movies that way. Or even have an HDMI to mini display port connector so you can plug in a stand alone blu ray player nope not supported.
I suppose I could buy a full copy of windows 7 and an external burner but then id be spending an additional $500 for the privilege.
Or I could just buy a loaded desktop pc and a 27 inch monitor for $1,500 dollars and save myself the hassle. So Steve how can you tell me your computer is better than a PC?

He doesn't elaborate as to HOW blu-ray is a "mess."
He just doesn't care for it, so therefore, everyone else is stuck without it because of the preferences of one man.

What King Jobs wants, King Jobs gets.

I don't have a blu-ray player, nor do I plan to for a long time. I was rather hoping that the newest iMac that just came out would have BD capabilities. Now, I get to CONTINUE buying DVDs at the store until I get a Blu-Ray-capable iMac, and then have to replace all the movies I want in Blu-Ray.

thanks, i dont really get it, the only apple product ive ever owned is the ipod, so i dont really know a lot about them, but that statement didnt really make any sense, i havent had any problems with any of my software, i wonder why he thinks its "a mess", doesnt add up to me

That's the thing... he DOESN'T think it's a mess.
He just lied.
He made it up for but one... teensy... tiny... reason...

Because he thinks it poses a threat to his precious iTunes store selling movies.

Which, technically, it does. But iTunes is lower image quality than Blu-Ray.

Basically, he's just defending his inferior product because he can.
