Steve Jobs wants everybody to buy his movies from Apple website so that he can control the price and jack it up. I hope Blu-ray will crush Apple HD for good! At least with Blu-ray, no single company has the monopoly and that keeps the price down.

what a depressing hole apple dug themselves into...

so there no longer trying to future proof their own laptops media wise and want to crate there own system of downloading HD movie's online?..

good luck with that, sounds like a waste of millions down the drain with server costs and bandwidth when you can easy walk into a store and have it on disk with no Waiting time and a Complete uncompressed sound with a product On hand that can never Crash.

Default No blu ray? the fanbase doesn't care

Figured id drop my 2 cents.
Apple has very loyal blind followers. They always buy gimped apple products and then upgrade every year. I mean look at the iPhone, Look at how many major standard features it was missing when it first came out, It had no MMS and no 3g amoung many other things, and then through multiple yearly releases we are now at the 3gs that just got MMS a few months ago when my flip phone has has that for YEARS. And then the Apple fanboys upgrade to each new release bcause they wanted those standard features to begin with but blindly defended Apple and they act like thos features are "brand new" because APPLE did them.

When I was in college a good friend of mine got rid of his PC over a xmas break and bought a 2500 Mac desktop (a power mac i think?). I helped him hook it up and that all went well, but there were problems to come. Upon moving over his audio and video files tons of them would not be recognized, but once he got everything switched over the Mac was just slow. We could not even listen to Itunes and watch a visualization program at the same time, the Mac would slow down heavily and sometimes freeze. Then once it slowed down while he was loading a dvd and I needed my movie back but since there is only an eject button on the keyboard the DVD drive would not respond since that command has to go thru the computer which was now slow/frozen, we then had to pry open the DVD drive (since there is not button on the unit) and manually eject the DVD. (This was done MANY other times, the mac would just slow down and not respond to eject and we would have to pry open the DVD drive). Since his Mac kept slowing down when mutlitasking (which I thought was INSANE considering this thing was 2500 bucks) my friend decides he needs more RAM. He doesnt wanna pay the ridiculous APPLE price, so he gets some on ebay. That memory didnt work and he ended up paying Apple for RAM and he was not happy about it. He tried calling their help line, but his 60 day phone support expired and they wanted a lot of money to help.
I didn't really keep up with all the results of his Mac, but I was totally digusted that he paid 2500 for this machine, it seemed like a total waste.
He eventually got it running well.

So a half yr passes and I get enough cash saved and I planned on buying parts from newegg and building a PC. You know what this kid told me to do? BUY A MAC!!!! I was like dude, you paid 2500 for that and for months had nothing but problems that required you spending more cash, why on earth would you recommend that? He had no real reason, but once I dropped 1800 on parts and monitors and built a nasty PC with dual graphics card and and sick dual monitors for a lot less than he paid he was very very mad and jealous. Thats apple blind following

Apple fans just ignore everything else so they don't even realize what is out there or what they are missing. Another funny story is I am a windows user and I use WMP for my music, well at this time WMP11 was out (this was in 2006) and believe it or not WMP was the first to have all your albums listed with cover arts and everything, this is before iTunes had that. Well the kid Chris from above and my roomate who are both apple fanboys (they both have macs and think they are way better) were hanging in my room and we were about to put on some music, so I open WMP11, and since they used mac, they didnt even know it was WMP. So I start browsing through my music selection and my friend chris see's the WMP11 screen and how all my music is organized and displayed with cover art and he screams "OMG WHAT PROGRAM IS THAT?!?! I WANT THAT, I WANT MY MUSIC TO BE SHOWN JUST LIKE THAT!! THAT IS AWESOME WHAT PROGRAM IS THAT??" and my roomate was asking the same saying it looks awesome, so I turn around and look at them both with a smile and im like thats Windows Media Player! And then all of a sudden they both go "oh yeah, whatever, itunes is the best"

So, when they didnt know that it was WMP11 is was cool and awesome and my friend Chris went as far as saying he wants that program. But once they found out it was Windows, they changed their mind and suddenly "itunes is better".
Typical apple fan.

Just watching the video made me think: "Jeez. That looks a little uncomfortable to have to hold upright all the time... If only there was a way to prop it up on the top of your lap... like a laptop..."

Who the F needs a laptop you have to hold up all the time???

Since everybody knows that a 1.5 inch screen is better than 40+, who needs high resolution? I'd rather squint at all my video... there's an app for that!

Ok, I'll admit it, I bought an iPod Touch, and also bought about 10 songs, 20 apps and 2 South Park episodes from the iTunes store for it as well (I usually get my music a different way and my videos from digital copies), but I never liked Apple. The iPhone is basically an iPod Touch with phone features added, and funnily enough, the iPad is basically an iPod Touch with computer features added. I'll stick with my computer and Blu-Ray set up. I always prefered to own discs to digitally download films anyway.

Arrow What will happen after Blu-ray?

I know this has been brought up on many occasions, but I thought I should start a new thread just to revive the question again.

So, what will happen after Blu-ray? I think that BD will be last last fully physical format that we will see simply because everything is going digital now, and discs are slowly becoming out-dated.
What I believe will happen is that movies/TV shows/games will be downloaded onto a hard-drive that is connected to the television or built-in. But to actually be able to buy the movie, TV show or game, you would have to purchase a driver's license sized card from a retailer* that can be then slotted into the hard-drive which will alow you to download the product you want, and once you have downloaded it you throw the card away as you then have the movie, TV show or game you want.

*I think the idea of some sort of card would be done mainly do make sure that studios had someone to do buissness with, but at the same time keeping the downloading idea possible.

But what do you think? In perhaps about 15 years time when the sad possiblity of Blu-ray will have died out, what will takes its place?

I doubt Blu-ray will be dead in 10 years. CD has been called dead for the last 5 years or so, but still outperforms downloadable content. I really don't see physical media dieing out any time soon.

CD as been around for almost 30 years, DVD is entering it's 14 year and it's still in used even with Blu-ray slowly taking over. I think Blu-ray will still be around in 10 years time

Blu-ray will more than likely be the last physical format, and will probably be around a long time, perhaps 20 years or more.

I believe Blu-ray will be around for at least 20 years. Yes, it may be replaced as the premier format for delivering movies to home by the next technology "break-thru" in 5-10 years.. But just as DVD co-exists with Blu-ray, so will Blu-ray co-exist with what comes after it. Technology improves and that is a constant reality in the industry.

CDs, DVDs, Blu-ray will all survive my lifetime and probably the next generation or two as well.
