![]() I've seen countless posts by some very AV-knowledgeable folks around here in threads (typically OT) where it is blatantly obvious they don't have a clue as what they are talking about, yet they continue on as if they do, making statements proving their ignorance. That being said, some of those comments are pretty stupid! ![]() |

I agree..... whenever I see a Yahoo news story, or whatever it may be, I immediately go to the comments to get a good chuckle.
It's amazing to think about the stupidity of people.... It could be a story about a woman who shot her kid in the head because it wouldn't stop crying, and there would still be "You gotta do what you gotta do" type comments. Never underestimate the stupidity of the masses. |

![]() ![]() "Blue Ray is still too expensive if you get one that is compatible with your existing DVD collection. Not all Blue Ray players will play your old DVDs and the ones that do cost more. My old equipment still works fine and it's not worth $118.00 to upgrade to a backwards compatible Blue Ray/ DVD player." I've uh... seen BD players that wouldn't play CD's but I've NEVER seen one that wouldn't play DVD's. They may be out there but they are few and far between. I really think some people just make shit up and say it over and over so much that they actually believe the bile that is coming out of their mouths. If you don't want to upgrade, that's FINE, you don't have to... but don't spread lies to other people just to make yourself sound like you know anything. Oh, and this one... "At $10 for a typical DVD, and often $50 for the BluRay disc of the same movie, and hardly if any difference in image quality unless you have a $10.000+ television, buying BluRay discs just doesn't make sense for the majority of customers. I purchased a BluRay player when my old DVD player broke down, to be prepared for if BluRay discs ever come down in price, but I keep buying mostly DVDs (only picking up the occasional BluRay disc from the bargain bin). I suspect it's the same for the majority of owners." ![]() Last edited by threefiftyrocket; 04-20-2011 at 02:29 PM. |

The stupidity of people astounds me. First off, the ONLY TV's that you can buy today are at LEAST 720p (I know there are a few stragglers out there) but when I go to Best Buy, Target, Wal mart, Fry's, or any other electronics or department store, I MAY see a couple rear projection TV's but ALMOST EVERYTHING is at least 720p and has an HDMI in. Second, if you shop around, you can get one really cheap. Third, ummmm... A LOT of my BD's I have bought CHEAPER than their DVD counterparts, and they COME WITH A DVD. People are uninformed and they stay uninformed because they want to be closed minded and complain about $hit.
I can understand the convenience factor for downloads, and granted some people have a hard time discerning between HD and SD content. Not everyone's eyes are built the same. And some people just don't care about the "sharpest picture possible" but please please please people stop bringing it all back to price, because BD's and an HD setup is NOT ungodly expensive. |

I love this comment in response to that article:
"Blu-Ray has several insurmountable problems, but as the story notes there simply isn't that much improvement in picture quality. Before buying a 32-inch Blu-Ray screen I would opt for a 52-inch conventional one. As one who used to sell Blu-Rays at Walmart I can say the only people who were buying were military families with re-up bonuses to spend and regular income types who were susceptible to keeping-up-with-the-Joneses advertising. " What the hell is a "Blu-Ray screen"? And what is the difference from a "coventional one"? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Don't start that, it has nothing to do with anything. You see the same stuff from people everywhere else. |

This. Unless you buy with the coupon on release day with price matching of some sorts, you'll never get a Disney Blu below 20 dollars. Hell, Disney Animated DVDs are still in the 25-30 dollar range.
I'm a late adopter, I only started buying Blu-Rays with The Princess and the Frog release, as Disney offered the coupon. I never even got a player until the following November, and then a month later, a proper HDTV. I have almost 600 some DVDs in my collection, and still buy them if it's a movie that's not on Blu-Ray, and/or it's a movie I don't "love" enough to buy on Blu-Ray. I've upgraded a few films, but for the most part, only if the price is decent, and/or if I love the film, will I actually upgrade my DVD copy. Unfortunately, Canadian prices aren't exactly the greatest for that. I happen to live in NS, which has the highest inflation rate out of the whole country. We always get the shaft when it comes to a lot of store stock too. |

because for some people the jump was big... I know I thought it was. But its not always about PQ... the jump forward in AQ from VHS to DVD was INSANE... every VHS I owned always sounded like $hit... especially after viewing it a few times. Now I DO agree that the jump from DVD to BD is bigger, but I don't think VHS to DVD was minimal at all

[QUOTE=threefiftyrocket;4639474]that's not true either, that's as bad of an argument as the people who say blu-ray isn't an improvement over DVD. Granted, I PREFER to have my movies on a disc that I can actually OWN, but I've seen some downloads that were very very very good quality...

Ummm... a buddy of mine had a digital download of Blade Runner, he had a 32" HD computer moniter. While the PQ/AQ did not match my BD copy, it still beat the crap out of any DVD I had EVER seen of it. It was quite stunning quality, and the audio made his walls rattle.
