Don't start that troll rubbish! Picture quality is in the eye of the beholder....Maybe your take on quality isn't as high has mine. Calling me a troll is just dull and offensive.

Did it accure to you that it may have been a BD rip (my friend had a BD rip of The Deathly Hallows pt. 1, that while not as good as the BD, was still better than DVD quality)?

Saying digital downloads are trash is rubbish, a BD disc is nothing but digital encoding, and given the proper speeds and equipment, you could download an exact copy of what is available on physical media. It's absolutely insane to expect that with download speeds the way they are, but to call a digital download trash because the ones that you have seen may have been, is just uneducated.

I didn't say it wasn't a BD Rip, but the fella is trying to say that all digital downloads are crap, which is wrong. Was it legal? Probably not, but it looked and sounded great, which is the point that I was making, refuting his claim.

.....and the point I'm trying to make is that you cannot compare a BD rip (which can be as large as 20 gigs) to a digital download from itunes, PSN, X-Box marketplace, etc (which even in "Hi-Def" still looks/sounds like crap).

He did not specify itunes PSN or X-Box Marketplace... I have iTunes digital copies I know what they look like. He said digital downloads are crap, blu-rays are quality... which isn't true. A digital download CAN BE an EXACT COPY of a BD Disc, THAT is the POINT I was trying to make.

Now if he would have specified from one of those three sources, I would have said yes, currently the qualities on those servers are lower than what I want, but to say in general that all digital downloads suck is asinine, b/c its not always the case.

......but then you should have said DDs can someday be as good as BD, but (as has been stated at nauseam) as things stand today, they aren't (legally anyway). As it stands, legal DDs are crap.

I never said that it couldn't. Look, this dude is obviously a troll, probably starwarsagent with a different name b/c starwarsagent got banned. We are arguing, which is exactly what he wanted us to do. I never started an argument with you and I never disputed anything that you said, I was just trying to make a point that what he said was incorrect.

I fully enjoyed watching the HD restored version of star trek OS on the web (CBS i think is the company that has them up). They definitely blew away my dvd sets, sound sucked granted but for free could not be beat. Don't understand dismissing downloads by so many on here, not to mention dvd lol. Seems there must have been a ton of people sitting around watching movies for the past 10 years thinking to themselves "man this quality sucks".

I doubt half the tv shows i like will ever see a blu release, can and do i still enjoy them hell yeah, do i enjoy blu-ray yep. However what i really enjoy is all the options available to watch the true source of that enjoyment, the stories themselves. Options ranging from price, to convenience, to quality. Great time to be a fan of movies, and great time to be fanboy if you like arguing on the internet.

+1

I just bought House Season 6 on DVD the other day, 15 bucks. Couldn't pass it up... haven't seen the BD set even close to that yet. I'm happy with it.

Look, man, I'm not trying to piss in your punch bowl (nor am I trying to defend trollish behavior). I just can't see how calling a duck a duck is "trolling". Your argument is predicated on seeing something that you have even stipulated was most probably an illegal BD rip as proof that DDs aren't crap, which is not an "apples-to-apples" comparison. I can go on a bit-torrent site and download a 3D-BD rip of Avatar which looks pretty close to BD quality, but nowhere can you find similar quality from a legal e-tailer. So, saying that DDs are crap is not trolling, its being observant.

If bootleggers in china or their moms basement can get great quality over the internet, why can't actual companies? The only bootlegs i have ever seen are pretty awful... but if it can be done illegally, why on earth can't it be done legally. That makes no sense to me.

While Netflix streaming and the like are lucky to approach upscaled DVD quality (and upscaled is often a reach) I'm not sure you can dismiss all digital streaming.

Comcast OnDemand HD, for example, can be awfully good. Not BD good - 1080i, 5.1 (and not a particularly aggressive 5.1), at times noticably compressed - but awfully good nevertheless.

It can, but the banwidth required to download BD quality vids isn't there yet. It takes a couple hours right now to download a 4 gig file. Do you think that the average consumer wants to spend half a day waiting for the movie they want to watch to finish dl-ing? That's why legitimate e-tailers don't offer it now. For the bit-torrent sites, they could care less about file sizes as they don't store them on their servers, the are merely a go-between for ppl to download from each others hard drives. There's no doubt that in the future (most likely 5-10 years) consumer internet speeds will reach the point where BD PQ/AQ will be possible through DD, but we aren't there yet.
