In your opinion. to many of us anything less than the better alternative is unacceptable. That's fine that you do what you do, don't get me wrong, I'm not gonna tell you how to live your life, but you constantly make baseless claims about media with just your personal opinion to back it up and you do it IN the blu-ray forums.... by definition that's trolling

lol, again, evasian. without specs, credentials etc you opinion means zilch.... it's called backing up what you preach. and peoples systems DO make a difference, understanding each person's listening environment plays a vital role in analyzing and understanding issues.

Never is an awfully long time.

Arguing that physical media will never be replaced or supplanted is every bit as myopic as arguing that streaming will become the dominant form of home entertainment delivery in the next few years.

Both claims are little more than wishful thinking.

The whole idea of "buying" physical media will be a thing of the past shortly. The Fugitive on blu ray was $5 NEW last night at Walmart.

yeah, and DVD's of older catalog titles have been that price for almost 1.5 DECADES...walmart INVENTED the $5 bin. To think that blu-ray would not follow suit as DVD did is ludicrous

I know there's no real point to this but what the hell - define shortly.

That's something a kid would say, you don't know the first thing about the user you are debating with yet you make such empty statements. Pics or your full of it.

The take over for digital streaming vs blu ray is going to happen in the next three years. Apple TV/SONY Entertainment/Amazon etc currently offer an acceptable alternative to renting/buying physical media. Most people do not have giant screens past 50" nor do they care for Master Audio.

Right now, were are already seeing the emergence of digital streaming in the blu ray segment, we have blu ray combo packs that often (but not always) include the digital copy, we have pre-street date digital releases of such titles as Argo, Anna Karenina etc. Trailers on blu rays are heavily promoting Ultraviolet. Streaming will kill redbox and renting physical media at blockbuster is already dead.

As for blu ray and physical media, it will still exist. Those who enjoy master audio or whom have large screens and want the best possible picture quality, will still buy the media. Also, those who are serious collectors will still buy and the studios will provide.

Also, kids movies especially Disney will still demand a good following on blu ray.

As for the masses, they will convert to digital streaming as being the preferred mode of watching movies at home. Whether they purchase or rent makes no difference....next three years are the key.

If you believe this why are you an active troll ...err... member of a blu-ray forum, why not push your beliefs on a forum that has the same beliefs as you.

You are the epitome of a Troll, you only post to encourage arguments knowing full well that the users here believe in blu-ray media. Go somewhere else kid

Agreed. If this guy believes blocky pixelated 1080p (in my opinion) is acceptable he is certainly in the wrong forum.

How do you define 'take over'? 90% of total spending? 80%? 50.000001%?

One of those could happen in the next three years. The other two? Not so much.

So by 'become a thing of the past' you mean 'will remain largely unchanged'?

That's a pretty weird way of phrasing things but okay.

Are you saying that all Home Cinema equipment is the same? Are you some sort of communist? You're beginning to sound like one - with your three year plans and dictats that the prolatariat will all behave as one lumpen mass and consume their media in the same grateful way and be thankful to the mighty and powerful content providers who decide for us what we watch.

Over here in the UK, we have a free society still, thank goodness. Apple TV is largely unknown, and we stream and buy whatever we like from wherever we like, as we please and will continue to do so whatever you think about it. I hope you get your country back soon

I've no idea why you simply won't list your equipment that makes for a 'crystal clear' picture on your 1080p TV and 'superb' sound system. You've had more than enough time to do some research and make something up if necessary. It's pretty clear your either new to home cinema (you didn't know what calibration was in the other thread) or just trolling us.

Your argument seems to be able to be boiled down to 'THINGS ARE GOING TO STAY THE SAME SOONER THAN YOU THINK. APPLE TV IS GREAT. 1080P PICTURES ARE CRYSTAL CLEAR'

This is a great forum. You could learn a lot from some very clever people. Not counting myself there for modesty reasons, I know very little only that I need to learn lots more, but lots of people will help you learn stuff here if your open to it. Sitting there demanding your opinion be taken seriously, while insulting others and showing your ignorance, won't get you far on the internet or in real life.

.
Blu ray will get about 35-40% of the market share, or shall I say physical media (dvd/br combined) that is how I see it happening. The final push will be when the studios offer an early release rental windows for digital downloading, the studios already offer an early release window to buy. Blu ray will be a part of the home entertainment experience, but it won't be "the" most important piece.

Lost in all this, will be redbox as they currently have to offer movies at a dirt cheap rental, they will not be able to offer them early.

Thing in the past, what I mean is that it will not be offered everyone, best buy etc will only offer really new stuff. Catalog movies will be very difficult to find.

So by streaming 'taking over' you mean shops will have a reduced catalogue section? Based on...guesswork?

Why not go away and come back in three years and you can tell us all you were right all along?

We are on the 20th anniversay of MP3s, and it took approximately 0 time for people to claim CDs were doomed.

How someone can look at that and proclaim Digital Downloads/Streaming will "win" within 3 years is unbelievable, especially considering that Digital Downloads sales are WAY behind and growing slower than Blu-Ray.

I don't believe it. And I'm one who buys a lot of TV digital downloads, so I'm part of those making it grow, as slowly as it's growing.

The growth that streaming overall had last year was almost precisely matched by the amount that rentals went down. I find it difficult to believe that this is pure coincidence. And almost nobody doubts that Streaming is killing the rental market.

Most of the seasoned Home Theater enthusiasts around here post pics of their Home Theater To be honest I think all you are doing is pushing your agenda.

Second ~ If you are so experienced in Home Theater ~ Can you mismatch your front three speakers & what do they call it ?

Third ~ How do you hook up an external amplifier to the receiver & speakers ?

Forth ~ What is your receiver & what do you set the crossover at when calibrating it ?
