That's a great way to spin it.

But for the majority of people who have 720P and 1080i sets, that just doesn't fly.

Edited to correct typo!

I friggen hate to agree with you, but Toshiba seems to be fighting like crazy whereas the BDA is just dropping the occasional bomb.

Man, BD better get some cheaper players out ASAP because at these prices there will be people waiting in line for these puppies... Hell I might even sway to the dark "RED" side considering they have a ton of movies I want... I mean come on Blu, bring out the "BIG BATS" and lets get to business...

actually, it's until noon that day. I'm an electronics associate at wal-mart. all those great prices end at noon. most wal-marts in my area have 10-12 in the backroom waiting. it's the first time i have ever seen the A2 and boy is it the crappiest thing I've ever seen. It says "made from scrap" all over it. it doesn't even have a display panel on it. I'm sorry but I've seen alot of durabrand, venture, proscan dvd players in my time at wal-mart that rival the quality of the A2. wonder why toshiba is the only company at THIS time making hd dvd players.

If someone owns a 1080P dispaly then both players I mentioned will output both 1080P/24 and 1080P/60. There is no spin here. BLU-RAY players have a certain quality level and only offer 1080P where as Toshiba makes cheap quality 1080I players.
When comparing prices one needs to be fair about the features.

Also one day someone might want to upgrade their TV to 1080P and if they do they already have a player that plays 1080P if they bought any BLU-RAY player or select higher priced HD-DVD players.

I believe it is time to call out the black flag as we are getting hammered by cock roaches.
Blu-ray.com is not the place to advertise hd dvd.

Even if you disagree that good TV's will display 1080i and 1080P the same, you can't argue that the majority of HD owners have 720P and 1080i sets. All those owners will get the same PQ out of the HD-A2 as the will any of the lower priced blu-ray players.
those same people that are buying HD DVD players at $98.00 how many are going to be new HDM buyers?..now i ask you what % would you say of those same buyers are going to pay $30.00 per movie.?..so what are they going to play on those new HD DVD $98.00 HD DVD PLAYERS. the fact is HOW long is the price of these movies going to stay at $30.00+...

the longer that the studios keep split which side gets the better end of the deal...10 to 1 notice the price of HD DVD 1080p players for both sides are near the same cost only the 1080i is where HD DVD is cheaper.

If they want to play dirty, so can we.

Do a good thing both for you and Blu Ray, and go buy one of those A2 @ $99.

Nonsense you say? Treason?

No, and here's why.

What they want with those deals is penetration, to boost the HD DVD disc sales that would go with those units.
Let's be real, wether you, Blu Ray fans, buy them or someone else, they will be bought at that price.
Except that you can use those as a good ol DVD player, or hell even for that one HD DVD title you have been dying to own. But not more than that

Each player they sell that does not generate 5+ sales in HD DVD discs is a waste for Tosh and its friends.

Now can you resist the impulse of buying HD DVD titles with a player? That is your call

But know that for each unit you buy, you not only do a favor to an uneducated soul, but also stick a major finger to Tosh (if you can resist the urge to buy HD DVD exclusives).

Maybe it's just me, but I couldn't find any HD DVD players listed on the regular Walmart.com site. If you do a search for HD DVD it shows a Blu-ray player.

Maybe they are trying to get rid of stock of HD DVD players with all these discounted prices and then go Blu-ray exclusive.... well it's probably just a glitch or something.

What about this Blu-Ray player? The Philips BDP9000 is only $299. Or are you just comparing the new models or something? Because HD DVD has a cheaper model then that as well.

The people that buy these will probably think they are just DVD players for their HDTV's and for regular DVD's.

First, I think very few people will buy movies at $30. I think they'll buy them at places that have them at more reasonable prices. I've picked up titles on both sides for $20 or less.

I hardly think 10 to 1 notice the 1080P price difference though. At this kind of a price point, people may not know very much at all about either format. At that price, it also gives someone very little risk, even if they just want to rent.

Renting is good to though. Renting can lead to buying when people perceive the value. Watch enough HD DVD's or Blu-ray's on a high def TV and I think most people will perceive the value of High Def media.
