The companies continue to overestimate the amount of people who adopt these technologies early, many people are hesitant to throw money out for new products, especially things that aren't necessary. Standard blu-ray is here for a while, the 4K thing won't ever get rolling like blu-ray did unless every thing all of a sudden becomes cheap.

I was going to post yesterday that I believed THXguru was actually Pagemaster, because I noticed that like Pagemaster he ignored many comments and questions that were posed to him, which Pagemaster did when he lacked the knowledge and didn't know the answer. The funniest thing is, Pagemaster was asked multiple times to list his equipment and how he calibrated his setup but he refused to answer and kept dancing around it. He didn't even seem to have a basic understanding, and yet labelled himself as a THXguru . I'm surprised he managed to argue from page 15-25 in the "Home Theater vs a Real Theater" thread amongst some of the most knowledgeable members the other week.

lol, oh yeah it was pagemaster. I noticed his grammar syntax right off the bat... poor guy got murdered on here and had to create another identity.

oh and after all his ranting on how lossless was unnecessary he actually posted a pic of his TV to "show how ba he really was" you could see his receiver, it was some old pioneer receiver that didn't even DO lossless. I almost fell over I was laughing so hard

There is nothing wrong with the grammar (there was a missing word though ). In any case if you can't follow that is an issue with your reading comprehension and not my grammar. As for if i'm on a side, i'm on the side that provides the best quality in a consumer friendly manner, which for now is blu-ray.

My spidey sense was going off during that whole banter on that thread that this dude might be a troll or a past troll previously banned here. I am kinda new here but people like that are on (sadly) every type of forum.

I remember the showdown all too well. I do think that these one format vs another discussions should be banned.

As an aside, I've just been over to a cooking forum to break the bad news that once McDonalds has opened in every street in the world they won't be able to buy hamburgers at the supermarket anymore. They weren't impressed. [/satire]

. I didn't see what took place unfortunately, I was aware that something went down as I observed the early stages of it, but when I logged back in hours later things that I had previously read were deleted.

I agree, such discussions should be banned based on their past history on these boards. It's like some topics that get opened and quickly closed in the general chat section, you just know how those threads are going to end before they even begin. Though I think the last couple were left opened because it was just so hilarious and entertaining watching Pagemaster harp on for weeks.

So, despite your huge bluray collection, you are looking forward to films on smartphones and smartwatches?

Default I'm stopping at Blu-Ray, at least for now

I bought a lot of movies of DVD and then Blu-Ray came along and I was sold on this technology so I started re-buying movies I once had on DVD so I can get them on Blu-Ray. Now we have 4K technology but I'm not buying into it, at least not yet. Blu-Ray is good enough for me. I'm not going to keep re-buying movies everytime a new technology comes out. I might upgrade later down the road but it's too soon for a new format to come out. Blu-Ray is still new, it hasn't been around for very long. Technology needs to slow down. I just hope 4K doesn't phase out Blu-Ray any time soon.

I truly believe that blu-ray will be the last major physical media format...

all this 4k/ultra HD/etc etc will be download only...and least that's what seems to be trending...

REALLY?!!? We're not even at 4k yet and theyre already going to be filing in 8k? That means 4k will be obsolete when that comes out. This is nuts!

Hate downloading and streaming. I think 4K would be really sweet though. Since 99% of all films ever filmed, is on 35mm which roughly translates to 4K, there won't be a need to ever release them on 8K.

I believe this to be true as well. My nephew & my gf's kids have shown me that their generation has NO interest in collecting physical media. They are all quite content to let the internet store their movies & music. It doesn't seem to matter to them that streaming is subject to studio whims. Or that if VUDU or Zune go bust they lose their purchases. Funny thing is my nephew about lost his mind when our net went down for a few days. I just laughed at him as I happily passed the time with my physical media.

I won't upgrade the majority of my collection to 4k physical media but there will be some titles that I do. The gear isn't going to be a concern too me, as I'm planning to upgrade my AVR next year therefore I'll make sure the model I buy is 4K compatible, and I'll be purchasing a projector within the next couple of years as well so the same applies to it. That will just leave the purchase of a new player, unless Oppo offers a firmware update for the 105 to make it 4K compatible, which if possible would be great. So essentially with these upgrades on the horizon, 4K couldn't be coming at a better time for me.

I don't upgrade DVD's anyway, for that reason. Only if they come out with some new special feature content, or if it's a great deal for a great transfer.

Sit tight. Think of your collection as a blended one of movies. You player gets upgraded, backward compatible, but your collection does not.

Not jumping on 4K bandwagon just yet so Blu-Ray is just fine with me.
