I never bother with the download codes either. I don't see the point, it's just a waste of hard drive space when I've got the disc I can play in anything.

What a bunch of hysterical raving with no basis in fact.

Someone sounds like they're having a major paranoid anxiety attack. Nobody is coming to take away your big TV and replace it with a smartWatch. Take a few deep breaths and come out of the bomb shelter, the sky is not falling.

Seriously.... modern weapons of mass destruction can't be stopped with those nowadays. Why would anyone be hiding in a bomb shelter? Honestly!

I give my codes away & if someone touches my PJ or Sound System or Blu-ray player

I enjoy reading threads like these & my personal opinion is streaming will not over take & do away with physical media

No basis in fact? So teens have not adopted a 4 inch screen as their main viewing tool? You sure?

TV sales are not falling rapidly?

Social media sites are more important to youths than film and tv?

Just because teenagers do something doesn't mean they will carry the trend to their adult lives. The tablets and mobile phones are just social networking devices.

Steedeel tablet devices can't replicate large scale entertainment that can be a communal experience. Teenagers are still going to the theater and concerts and doing other things without their faces constantly glued to the devices. Chill

No, have not looked into as of yet. The article made no mention of how one would stream 4K content from Netflix. Is there any hardware capable of this? I have not heard of any.

FWIW, only use Netflix for old TV shows and such. The better half watches some stuff on the iPad, I will not waste projector lamp time on most stuff that Netflix offers. Our ISP does have Open Connect so we can get "Super HD" .

Come on, now. When I was a teen I adopted a 12" B&W portable TV as my main viewing tool. Then colour until I left home. Up until I bought my own place, which was early 30s, then the massive telly and permanent set up came.

They use those social media sites to talk about Twilight and whatever else they like watching. TV sales are falling because people have replaced their old sets with HD ones now and the people who upgrade annually still do, but most people wont.

I wouldn't worry about this. The same thing that helped with hdtv adoption will keep
screen sizes on the larger side, namely sports enthusiasts. Today's youth may be content
to watch a blockbuster on 8", but most sports people i know like to be able to tell what's
actually happening on their latest match.

The equation in this is really simple, as long as there is a profit in optical disc then they will be available.

It was said JVC executives stated that D-VHS would not have a long life. Most of us that bought into the format suspected that D-Theater would be replaced by Blu-ray in the near future. Not all studios supported the format but there quite a few titles made available during the short life of D-Theater.

No, I agree with him. And honestly your comment is even more ignorant since it appears that you don't realize that there is a difference between owning and renting. You can buy a film on BD (or other physical media) or UV (or other virtual media), you can rent individual films on BD (or other physical media) from places like redbox (or other rental places) or Vudu/itunes (or other virtual media), you can subscrtiption rent on BD (or other physical media) Netflix (or other subscription rental places) or stream from Netflix (or other virtual media).

All the same options exist for disk as for streaming/dl. The only difference is f you are willing to sacrifice quality because you are too lazy to move your butt.

My, haven't we been the busy little prognosticator bees.
Out of that list the middle class has the best chance of disappearing any time soon (or even ever). Records are still sold and digital has put a serious dent in CD sales but over a decade later CD sales are still very strong (and in the music world the transition should have been a lot easier since, for example, being able to buy single over an albums is a plus to consumers) and make the lions share of sales internationally and almost half of sales in the US.

Also I really don't get why he thinks TVs (or more precisely, large displays) will go anywhere. Can you imagine going to a superbowl party? what will it be? a dozen people all holding their individual tablet in one hand inches from their nose and in the other a chicken wing (where does the beer go?) or that dozen people fighting to see that 9" screen?

I don't get why it appears so hard for some to get something that simple. A teen is never about the what but the where and who.

PS I was a bit better off, I had my 13" commodore 64 monitor hooked up to the old beta player..

But do we need to go through this every few months? Where you go into TVs and physical media are doomed? Most of the time you are a calm and rational person and then BOOM doom and gloom and the end of the world is here. It is not my fault if that is the impression you give me.
